Keith Storey's "Key" Team racer Kitted by Berkley.

"Swift", kit no. B-103 Kitted by Girard's.

Does anyone know where I can get these plans?

De, John Pond plans (Now in AMA hands) has the "Key" listed as plan No. 40D2 Their plan will be a different No. but this will serve as a ref. No.

They don't have the "Swift".

There are two plans listed for the "Key" from 1949 racer in Outerzone plans. (https://outerzone.co.uk/search/results.asp?keyword=Key ).

There is one "Swift" listed for a 2.5cc racer also.

The Swift is supposed to be a Globe Swift. This is one of the crudest kits I have seen. It is out of the late 1940's,and has a few crudely die cut ribs and a couple of plywood die cut formers. The balsa appears to be war surplus. It has several  large balsa blocks, and is very heavy. The fuselage is 25" long with a wingspan of 34". It was meant for class "B" or "C" engines. It was manufactured by Girard in San Mateo, California.
It cost $7.50 new. It appears to be designed to go straight and level. I'll bet it had a long takeoff run and tumbled when it landed.

It's value is like that of a GHQ engine. Something to look at and say, 'what were they thinking?"

Maybe this is not much more help than what has already been given.

The article with full size plans for Keith Storey's Key was published in Air Trails, March 1949.  As mentioned above, these plans are available from the AMA plans service.

Also, there was a 1/4 full size drawing of the Key in the 1949 Aeromodeller Annual.

The Berkeley kit was introduced sometime later, was featured as "The Model of the Month" in an issue of Air Trails, date unkown.  An interesting note from that review states the lines were required to be 0.001" for each three ounces of model weight.  The Berkeley kit has appeared from time to time on eBay.

    NOPE, De says the kit is of the Globe Swift general aviation two place light aircraft. I'm still looking for the Key kit plans I think I have. I remember getting several sets of Berkeley plans, still in their distinctive yellow printed mailing envelopes. I was making copies of plans for some of the "B" Team racer plans that I have back when they were talking at an early VSC I went to about racing some of those as a for fun thing during spare time. I think I had the Black Tiger plan also, I think I left them in their envelopes with the thought that they would be best preserved that way, and now just have to remember where I put them. I have 95% of my plans collection stored flat in several large flat file cabinets but may have put those some where else. Lots of nooks and crannies holding smaller plans also. I have already found one set of plans for a fellow club member and some others I forgot that I had, so, I'll find them!

 Back around 65 I and a mate built one of these each. It was a stunt wing with wheel spats, an upright engine and wingtip fences. From memory we put about a 1.5 or 2.5 diesel in them. I'm sure it was a Sportsman. However this maybe incorrect as I cannot find plans for it anywhere so far. Does anyone out there have any idea of what the heck this thing was called or better still have a plan ? (Apologies for the quality of the sketch, but you'll get the idea.) Thanks in advance.

   Don't give up hope yet!! I found the envelope for the Berkeley plan, so the plan is in the files some where. I also do have the plan that was in Air Trails, just don't know how close that was to the Berkeley plan yet.

I just checked out the plans of an original Berkley Key kit I have and it is the same as the PDF that Brent Williams just posted.  I was thinking of building the kit for Vintage Team Racing some years ago but the event was morphing into a go for broke event with original designs and modern hot engines.  That ended that idea so the kit didn't get built.  It is certainly an attractive model though.  Not sure just what I will do with the kit as the original box is missing but it seems complete otherwise.  It is far down the list of models I'd like to build.

I looked at the download that Brent showed on his post, and found a lot missing in my kit.
I'm afraid it isn't worth too much.  It is missing the bottom carved fuselage and some small pieces.
