Plans For Gordon Delaney's Profile Pathfinder

Brodak sells the plans separately. $15.00, drawn by John Miller-can't get much more authentic than that.

I was thinking of asking if RSM will have a single-engine version of the Twin Pathfinder. Gordan (correct spelling) would probably provide info. Gordan said they've built recent Pathfinders with 1" shorter TMA and liked it better. I'd like to know what the various (correct) dimensions are.  I'm wondering if my two Brodak kits have the correct hinge 2 hinge dimension or not, after reading about the +1" error on the early production kits. You can get kit plans from Brodak for about $15 + postage, or well, you know, the RSM twin plans and retro it into a single.

Several "StarFinders" have been built in this area (2 from Mike Haverly and 1 from Pete Peterson), which is Norm Whittle's restyled (& taildragger) version of the PathFinder. I believe the wing was either moved back 1", or the TMA shortened 1" and the nose extended some, because it looks quite a bit longer. I'm posting a couple of pics of Pete's Starfinder. Magnum XLS .36 with Randy Aero header and "Utah" pipe.   Steve

I have talked to Gordan regarding the Brodak kit. As stated, he recommended a 1" shorter tail moment. My impression is that it was not an error in the kit or plans but a refinement of the design. No reason to think the plans are not accurate in all other ways.  Right now Brodak is out of the kits but as plans and rib sets are available I will  go that route. Flew one (an ARF no less) a few weeks ago and have to say, it is the best flying profile I have ever flown-gotta have one!

I read (recently) that there was a problem with earliest Brodak Pathfinder kits, that the aft fuselage was 1" longer than it should have been. I think it was the stick kit, but maybe it was the ARF/ARC "kit".  I'm pretty sure that these two 1" dimensions are different...but I'd love to see a hinge/hinge dimension published off the Twin, if somebody can provide that info. The other thing that was changed in the Pathfinder kit was that the elevator was 1/16" thinner than the stabalizer...and needs to be corrected for best results.  Steve

I received my Twin Pathfinder kit from RSM 10 days ago. The hinge to hinge measurement on the supplied plan is 16 inches. The plan also shows equal thickness stabilizer and elevator.

That is correct. 16in. tail moment and the stab and elevator are the same thickness.
