I am in the process of replacing my Tahoe, planning to get either a Suburban/GMC or Ford Expedition Max for the extra room. Unfortunately all the dealerships in our are are thin on numbers. We'll make the trip again this year in either the Tahoe or my wifes Flex and with 3 of us in the cabin packing multiple planes for Ben and I gets tight. I'm thinking about either renting or purchasing a trailer for the planes. Any suggestions?
Thanks

Put the planes in the car, and Ben in the trailer!

For a single trip or two I'd rent a small enclosed U Haul trailer. No worry, no hassles.

How about a roof top carrier ?

Put the luggage in the carrier Planes in the vehicle. At $85 it may be cheaper than rent-a-trailer and you have it for more than one trip.
Another choice is a trailer hitch cargo carrier:

If you get the Sub - should be fine. I saw a great plane rack on facebook that held the planes vertically (nose down) and they had like 6 ships across the width of the back. I have done a carrier that held them stacked up and can get four max. Good luck and send pic's of how you packed it.

If it is a one time thing it might cost less to just take 2 cars. Split the people, planes, and luggage up however it works. I do like the rooftop carrier idea too.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I never considered the carrier rack on top.

I have used a car top bag like the one pictured on my small Pontiac Vibe with much success. Make all luggage soft type and put all of that in the bag. Models and heavy stuff go in the car. I have use it in conjunction with the same cargo carrier from Harbor Freight that is shown also. I cut a piece of plywood to match the outline of the bottom of the roof top bag. I did MOT assemble the cargo carrier and left it flat. I attach the plywood to the cargo carrier and then the bar to that assembly with tie down straps. This all goes in the receiver on my Chrysler minvan. Same plan here, all soft luggage goes in the bag, and models and flight boxes go in the van. I think my bag is a Thule and I got it from Sears, which is hard to do these days, but I'm sure they are available some where else. The one depicted here in this thread is very similar. They are quite water proof if used correctly.
. Type at you later,

Here is an example of an ultra-modern car top carrier...
My father built this in the early 1950s and went to many meets with it. Red Reinhardt also used this carrier on occasion. Lots of memories for me. I remember it well; I even used it to go to the 1979 Team Trials.... And, I took a lot of abuse for it.
In those days we mostly just put clear dope over the carbon mat.
