Plane identification
« on: July 17, 2021, 05:38:41 PM »
Hello all,
I am hoping someone can confirm the plane I have recently acquired.
I think it might be an Entrepid XL?
The numbers are. Wingspan 60.5"
Nose 11.5"
Wing root 10.5"
TE to TE 19 1/4"
It has a, "Jet Style", wooden canopy, which I have not seen on an Entrepid but just because I haven't seen it doesn't mean they don't exist.

It has a sheeted foam wing with wing mounted landing gear with what looks like cnc routed plate for the gear and an aluminum plate to hold the door.

Thanks in advance.
Craig

Simple enough..

I CAN confirm the following;

It might be an Entrepid XL
The numbers are. Wingspan 60.5"
Nose 11.5"
Wing root 10.5"
TE to TE 19 1/4"
It has a, "Jet Style", wooden canopy.
It has a sheeted foam wing with wing mounted landing gear with what looks like cnc routed plate for the gear and an aluminum plate to hold the door.

Confirmation complete.

I'm not sure our US audience will get the Ozzie sarcasm.

So guys, the question still remains, can anyone tell me what the plane is?

Thanks

To me it looks like an old r/c pattern plane.
I may be wrong but I doubt it.

Probably not.  Most RC ships had a removeable wing.

The wing, flaps, stabiliser and elevators all look
SV-12, Intrepid XL shaped to me.

I trolled the search section and found a plan Randy put up which he said was the Intrepid XL but the plan had SV-12 printed on it.

The top block is made up of 3 sections. The rudder molded into a piece of top block. Then a piece just forward of the TE of the wing. This is where I think the builder added his own flair and changed the canopy from over the wing to jet style.

Not an Intrepid or at least the fuse does not resemble the Intrepid XL I am. building right now.

That doesn't look anything remotely Randy Smith'ish to me, at least from the pic... the wing and stab airfoils are one thing that looks very non-Randy, and the stab height above wing C/L is another. Randy's stab's are typically 5/8" above wing C/L and that looks way higher from the picture, unless it's an optical illusion. I've built enough SV's to just know it looks... well... wrong, as far as Randy stuff goes, unless it's some other non SV design he did that I'm not familiar with. With that V deflector up front and cowl cut away (not a Randy cowl), it smacks more of a bash of a NE designed originally for a ST60 or something.

Eric, I was told it was specifically built for an ST60. So maybe some truth in what you say there.

The only reason for me suggesting it might be an Intrepid was the picture on Randys Web site the Stab and wing tips match and the SV-12 plans I viewed on here nose was longer than the wing root. There may be an optical illusion as I would say the Stab is 5/8" above the centreline.

Regardless, it has been beautifully built. I just really wanted to put a name on it. Perhaps the original builders name can go.on the wing.

Thanks
Craig
