The contest is over and was a good news bad news situation but those who competed seemed to have fun. The good news happened on Saturday with a nice overcast day. The bad news was Sunday morning with rain, cool and gusty winds which prompted a vote, which canceled the planned PAMPA events.
William Davis offered his TEOSAWKI to anyone who wanted to fly in PAMPA Expert. Five brave, crazy?, people decided to give it a try. They called it (ISOC) International Stunt Of Champions. Those of us who stayed dry and watched from the shelter called it TEOSAWKI Crazy Expert Stunt. Gusty winds had more of an effect than the rain. The TEOSAWKI performed flawlessly and survived a pancake meeting with the ground on the 4th flight with only the prop being damaged.
Bill Francis did his usual great job of organizing all the paperwork and administrative procedures to make the support side of our event work smoothly. Bill has informed the club that this will be his last contest as CD. Our thanks to Bill as he has been the CD for a number of years.
52 people from 10 states came to compete, support or watch this year’s contest. On Saturday there was a lot happening all over the field. Most of my time was spent at the combat area so details of the stunt and scale events will have to be provided by others
SCALE had 3 entries with the Val of Chuck Snyder the class of the field. The level of models competing improved this year. Dale Campbell judged this event.
STUNT had the largest number of entries and in many cases only a few points determined many of the final placings. William Davis assembled all the judges and as usual they did a fine job. Our thanks to those who provided this service so that we could do our thing.
COMBAT entries were down this year with only 6 entries. Bryan Blevias won the triple elimination event in his first contest Phil Cartier came down from Pa. Brian and Mark Rogers came in from Al to round out our field of North and South Carolina flyers. We missed the Florida and Tenn. Groups and look foreword to seeing them at our October contest
Mark has been working with Bryan on flying combat and the “Grasshopper” gave the “Master” a lesson beating him twice. Wayne Foster was in contention until his only model was finely unflyable. He was offered loaners to continue but declined.
This year we had dedicated cut counters/timers and a center marshal for the time and it made the event move faster and relieved those tasks from the competitors. THANK You Larry Fulwider, Mike Patterson and Gene Terrell
A special THANK YOU to all the support people who allow us to have fun flying while they keep things organized and moving
