The AMA is as bad as the government! 

Last October I contacted the AMA about putting putting a non flying event listing in their magazine.  This is the same as I have done for YEARS.   I was told if I submit the ad within the next few days it would be published in the magazine that comes out in early December.   I, as always, completed the form to have an event listed in the magazine and submitted the listing wording.   The AMA called me and said they got it and all was good.  I gave my credit card to pay them $20.00.  Everything I did was exactly the same as years before.

Well, the event was not in the magazine.

I called the AMA last week and asked why wasn't it published.  I was told they would look into it and let me know.  I got an email saying I only requested a "event sanction."   That is a bold faced lie.

I wrote that the AMA back, including the president, showing the emails where I requested a listing in the magazine, submitted a form and paid for a event listing in the magazine.   That process has never failed before and I want to know what the AMA is going to do. 

Now, none of them are talking.   So, today I called and demanded to talk to the president.  They transferred me to somebody else.   I told that person I want to talk to the president about the email I sent him where I requested an event listing and submitted a perfect application and paid for it. 

Is there something going on at the AMA?  I have never experienced such incompetence.

Thanks.   What shocks me is that they just didn't admit they messed up.  Instead, they concoct a phony narrative I only wanted the event sanctioned.   It that is the case, why do I have emails and forms I completed asking for the event to be published in the magazine?  Once I produced that, it is silence. 

Yes, I can dispute the charge on my credit card.   I would rather them accept their error and make this right.   My event will not be near as good without the listing, but the club has decided to go ahead with it because I have tables reserved and the cook out is being prepared for already.

Dave, I have been mulling this over for awhile.  I will check on the time limit for making a dispute on the charge.  I, think I might just call the AMA 5 days a week and ask for the AMA president.   If he doesn't take the call, I will leave a message. I have the determination to do it for a long time.   

I have never experienced this before with the AMA.  They have always published my event listings timely and anybody I wanted to talk to called back promptly.   Without an explanation of why it happened from the AMA, I may not do anymore swap meets because if they can't be depended on to put the listing in the magazine, it won't turn out good.

Today I called the AMA.  I left a message for the President Hanson to call me.

He did call me and said he will get to the bottom of this ASAP.

I will advise further when he lets me know.  I do feel much better after speaking to him.  He is a nice guy.

Hello,

President Hanson checked on what happened.  He said they was not able to get the listing in the December issue and that it will be in January.  Due to the swap being on Jan 4th, he said AMA would give me a complimentary listing if I want to have another meet later in the year. 

I am satisfied with the reply and consider the matter over.

The AMA President is not a member of AMA staff in Muncie. He is a "private citizen" like the District Vice Presidents. The head honcho at AMA is the Executive Director Chad Budreaux (?).

Walt, you're a smart guy!  I have that in mind.  This Saturday is the club meeting.  I am going to tell the club they have to decide on future date of the swap meet NOW, so I can redeem the listing credit BEFORE the time expires to dispute the charge on my credit card.  I have until Dec 28 to file a dispute, so it should work out. 

Bill, I didn't know the hierarchy of the AMA and thought Hanson was the boss.  Thanks for enlightening me.
