Icarus Jr Progress - ALMOST FINISHED!!!!!
« Reply #5 on: April 13, 2012, 10:44:14 AM »
After a bout with unacceptable laziness, I finally tackled the project again.
This is my new OTS plane - the Icarus Jr.
Designed by John Coasby, it is powered by the same engine he showed on the original plans, an ETA 29 that I found brand new at a swap meet.
I have only to clearcoat it, install the tank and cut out the prop slots in the spinner.
The plane should weigh around 30 ounces ready to fly.

That looks like a late Mk. ETA, in which case you should find things exciting!  :)

Hi Bob,

Where did you find the plans?

Thanks!
Bill

The Icarus, two versions, was publlished in Aeromodeller, April, 1951.  The magazine plans did not show a canopy.

Plans are available for both versions (42" span and 67" span) from the AMA plans service.

Here is one of my favorites of Rusty Brown's Icarus Sr. with an Anderson Spitfire 65. He made his own checkered silk with an ink stamp. He was a master of checkered silk among other things.

Here's another view of Rusty with his Icarus.  The silk & checkerboard motif was magnificent.
