They say a picture is worth a thousand words and I wanted to share some pictures of the Southeastern Model Show that was held in Perry, GA this weekend. It is now the largest show of its kind in the US. We filled up three huge buildings this year plus another huge one for the indoor fly in and demostration. The picture that is number 18 was the large building and that is only 1/2 of the building, I did not have a fish eye lens to get the whole floor. The AMA had a booth there and they were amazed at the size of the show and the number of people who came through in two days. Although in the past this has primarily been an RC show, I talked to a lot of folks who were getting into Control Line again having been out of it for years. There seems to be a movement for many of these guys to get back to their "roots" and they are rediscovering how much fun CL actually is. Many are flying in both RC and CL. I took my Nobler and Forerunner and hung them on the wall behind our table and it really drew a lot of people for conversations on control line.
This is an annual show and will be held again next year at approximatly the same dates. We would like to get more control line suppliers, vendors and pilots at next years show and would appreciate it if you could share this information I am passing on to you with your club members and friends. We will be sending out reminders during the year to those who would like to know more and we are discussing holding a fun fly, combat and/or contest in control line at next years show. We have a lot of details to work out between now and then and will keep you informed as things progress. We did not have anyone this year who was selling balsa and there could have been a fortune made if someone had entered a display in the show. Hopefully next year we will have that gap filled too.
I can use all the help I can get from you guys to pass this on to control line clubs and pilots. I do not have a list of control line clubs and any help you can give us would be appreciated. Also we need more suppliers and vendors of CL kits and supplies to be there. I think this year we had 1100 tables sold and it was packed. Table fees are $12.00 for the two days for display and admission is $8.00 per adult and $3.00 for children 12 and under and that covers both days.
Hopefully we will have some brochures available soon and I would be happy to get those to you also.
More to follow.
