Just got back from Bob's contest tonight. I had a blast! (And I bet a whole bunch of other people did too!)

I'll let someone else write a narrative, I'm just posting pictures. Most are from Saturday. I didn't take any today (Sunday) as my engine upchucked at the beginning of my first official and I had to figure out why. Bad plug! So, ran the fuel out and did a test fly and back to business. But got busy yakking with everyone and forgot to get the camera back out again. Sorry.

It took us 5 hours to get to Bob's contest, but it was certainly worth it. But instead of my van, we drive my wife's Equinox since it is much more comfortable. Unfotunately, my big contest ships don't fit so we took my Pat Johnston designed P-51. This was from an NVCL club build we did a few years ago. Poor thing got beat up until I finally figured out the best way to carry it. I took a picture for future reference....

This was the 50th Anniversary of the Garden Circle Burners Old Time Stunt. Everyone who entered Old Time got this very nice certificate as a momento.

Oh, and here is my fabulously beautiful Ringmaster entry. And no, I didn't get it from Dan B.!! And even better - I didn't come in last!!

I ran into Joe Meyers at Bob's contest. He was a member of NVCL many years ago. He entered Beginner flying his build of the NOVACLone - we all built these many years ago for a one-design contest we held. It is a great flyer and the perfect plane to fly the Beginner pattern.

Bel-Air being launched. Rick put up a really high score with this plane. Talk about "turn on a dime" - Wow!

Here is another nice plane - I think someone in Advanced was flying it. Clarifications/comments/more info anyone?

It was a gorgeous day with fairly consistent wind direction and strength, occasionally being completely still.
My camera spent most of the day being pointed into the beautiful sky, as you can see in the first photo.
The second photo is a general view of the entire field as we were wrapping up at the end.

Besides the airplane I would get a shot of pilot and plane. At VSC one year I got pilot and plane that flew year ecept for the late and great Bob Gieseke who won Old. That is the contestants that flew on the pavement.. Keeping track of name, AMA number and plane.

By the way that crazy beautiful lady Ricci Pyott was great doing this at VSC.

And here is the man who’s program development and traced videos made all brave pilots equal before emotionless camera judgement. Expert circle only was set with markers for video. Scott’s P-51 finishing it’s mission.

The "Ripslinger" is a new plane belonging to Gabe Alimov, Mike's youngest son, who did the CAD work and interface for 3-D printing, as well as the building. Mike designed the plane. It is a composite take-apart made using 3-D printed molds. It is so new that they have not had time to finish it. They say it is the best stunter they've flown. Gabe flew it here in Cleveland for its first contest appearance and posted scores in Advanced that compared favorably to some Expert Scores.

I hadn't made the connection between Mike and that plane. I first met Mike at Brodaks years ago and only got to visit with him on those occasions. So, it was fun to see him at Bob's contest, but we didn't talk so much about planes but about raising youngsters. Wish I had had more time to talk to him about planes too! These contests are about a whole lot more than just competition - it is really great to get to talk to all my long-distance friends.

Brent, yes, thin fiberglass vacuum bagged over blue foam in a mold. I will be doing a full pictorial once our flying season ends, which won't be very long now.

Good flying and good company (and good food!) all adds up to a great time. Bob, you organized one heckuva contest.

It was a pleasure to be one of the judges for Classic and Nostalgia on Saturday. My thanks to the flyers, especially when the wind started picking up!

Thanks for the picture of my novaclone! I love this plane. Especially after Allan Buck and Mr. Waterhouse gave me some help on line spacing, and Tom Huff and his brother lent me some tip weight.

It went from a twitchy bat out of hell to a fine tuned puppy.

Wow. I thought Windy’s original Cardinal was in the Brodak museum???

Or am I thinking of a different model? I’m thinking Zuriel Armstrong had it and donated it to John. I could be wrong as my memory is fading.

The yellow Cardinal pictured was Windy's 92 Cardinal. A bit smaller than previous versions. He gave it to me at the end of the 93 season. It pulled HUGE! To the point that I gave it back. I believe that Joe Daly converted it to electric.

The "Profile Cardinal" was also yellow, and was .40 powered.

I guess I never posted this! Windy's big job and Cardinal and yes Joe converted to electric. Big Job has a Rojett 61. I flew the big job it flys nice. It is now in my possession.

You'll notice that I had "Ringmastered" mine. I recall that I had stolen the finishing scheme from one of Paul Walker's Impacts.
