1/2A Tiger Moth
« on: July 30, 2006, 06:22:57 AM »
Hi guys,

Have a look at this little beauty... made it from sratch today. Even made my own snazzy belcrank and elevator horn. Uses 1/16" pushrod.

Dimensions are 18" Wingspan and 13" long.  3/16" x 3" x 36" Sheet makes the wings. 1/4" hard balsa profile fuselage. 1/8" x 3" x 12" makes the stabaliser and Fin.  Wing struts will get 1/64" plywood doublers added to strengthen. Brodak engine mount and wheels. Engine: Cox Golden Bee .049

I still need to workout the centre of gravity (CG)... any suggestions on where it should be on a biplane? I'm guessing somewhere near the leading edge of the bottom wing.

I drew up the plans for it by doing an outline of a pic of a Tiger Moth on my PC then using MS Photo Editor to resize image to the desired size/scale, then printed it out using MS Paint.

I would agree it looks like it should be about the leading edge of the lower wing. Nice looking Tiger moth by the way! I hope we get to see some pictures of it when it gets painted. Some time this week I should have some pictures of my Laird Super Solution posted on the scale forum. My friend's daughter took them at its first flight last Sunday.

Hi guys,

Thanks for the feedback.  After receiving loads of input on where the CG should be I will start off with it at the LE of the bottom wing and work from there. It may end up a little futher back. We are going to paint it very soon.  Stay tuned, I will post more pics when it's completed.

Cheers
