Does anybody know (banshee) questions.
« on: July 13, 2009, 04:04:00 PM »
Way back when I wqas a lot younger I often Flew at Flushing meadow park and watch Big Jim flew a pair of "pink" modified Sig Banshee's. Does anybody know what all was modified on them? I though he lenghtened or shortened the nose but not sure what  else was done to them. And theylooked pink to me but I am color blind so they could have been a different shade altogether.

I think that the plans talk about cutting the nose if you are going to use a type of engine. I can not remember if it calls for cutting it back if you are going to use anything other then a Fox 35. Someone told me about it. Not sure if you need to do anything else to them.

Banshee mods are easy. Slide the wing 1" forward and add 1" to each side of the stab/elev assembly. Great flying models.

Or just lop an inch and a half off the nose and add 1 inch to the stab/elev, either way these are the mods you want to do

The standard mod at Flushing Meadows back in the day for Banshees was to shorten the nose 1". Big Jim did indeed have those Banshees. I built a couple of them and never liked the planes.

See this how I learn stuff......
No I'm not planning on building a banshee though I though they flew well when I watched them.

Now I know what I should have done to the akromaster. I moved the engine back to get better balance but doing so makes the nose area for my tank very short. So if I had instead moved the wing 1/4 inch forward or so....

Besides the suggestions made by others, add one(or two) extra bays to the wing.

That is correct sir.

This is my Banshee.  I lopped an inch off the nose and love the way it fly's,

As I said I am NOT building a banshee.
I am though working on a new build or will be in about 2 weeks. Have new wood and printer cable waiting at my po box. My choice is to build something for an .09. 1/20 wood for ribs and sheeting using My choice of wingbuild. Straight chord.
Choices are either magician/mustunt1/shark402/banshee/ scaled down To about a 30 inch wing without tips added. I'll prolly use tileprint to print out my plans when I'am ready. I do like wing mounted landing gear though.
