FUSELAGE:

General Notes:  I always build the crutch first.  Make sure you get the crutch square and plumb before you attach to the fuselage side.  Once the crutch was assembled and glued, I laid the three pieces that make up the fuselage side over the plans and just made sure everything matched and it did.  After gluing the balsa fuselage sides together, I laid the 1/32nd plywood doubler over it and glued it in place.  Make sure you glue the plywood doublers on the INSIDE of the fuselage sides and that they match when you stand them up and both doublers are on the inboard side of the balsa sides.

The fuselage sides are slotted to receive the tabs on Former 3 and all the rest of the formers as well.  I then laid the crutch on its side as you can see, and fitted the tabs on Former 3 in the correct slots in the fuselage side.  MAKE SURE before you glue the maple motor mounts to the sides of the fuselage that you have a 1/8" reveal from the top edge of the fuselage side to the top of the motor mount. There should be 0 degree incidence.  There is no built in downthrust.

Once you have the crutch installed and glued between the fuselage sides, it is a simple matter of slipping each former between the sides, dropping the tabs in the slots and gluing the formers in place.
Also there is 1/2 " cross grain balsa glued between the motor mounts spanning from former F1 to Former F3.

The tab and slot make the construction so much easier and faster and everything in this fuselage fit great.  The basic box of the fuselage was square and plumb and no jig was necessary to build it.  I had to make no adjustments.

Paul I have a set of his blocks too and on some models, I do use them.  On this particular design I did not have to use them.
