Would like to do ink lines on my Lj does any one have any close up pics of ink lining on a plane before i start mine, I never did it before

P.S. Any last second advice **)

Make sure the ruler or other straight edge (and any French Curves, etc., ) are "raised above the surface".  If the edge of your drawing device is flush with the surface, the ink can, and will, smear under it.  It seeps under the edge.  It can even do it on masking tape.

The "edge" doesn't have to be real high (most rulers have a cork backing for this) but it cannot be in contact with the surface.

If you are having trouble with the ink adhereing to the painted surface, wet sand it with 2000.  A perfectly slick surface is not wanted, the ink will usually bead up and not "stick".

AMEN everything Bill said.  Just a couple layers of masking tape under the french curve is enough to get it off the surface.  offset the tape about 1/8" in from the edge.

Another option I have heard about but not tried is to add just a TINY bit of sih sop to the ink to make it wett out and flow better.

thanks guys im only trying a little on the flaps and elevators since its my first time ill post some pics when done

Another trick is to dust with talcum powder and blow it all off, then ink.  Enough will be left that it will help the ink adhere.

Ok,done I'm happy with the out come and will be useing ink lines on future projects! here are the elevators and flaps and will probably will do the rudder tonight.

Now it's just a matter of practice and getting your own technique worked out.  Everyone will do it slightly different.   H^^

What are you using to ink with?
What size are you ink lines?
Ink line width adds a lot to the look .
Get a piece of glass,or plastic film.
Practice  -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I found talcum powder helps ( as Jim suggested).
Also Ink Quality.

Steve,

The Lj is looking good and enventually you'll get the hang of putting on those ink lines.
