finish under horns?
« on: December 02, 2006, 05:41:04 PM »
Im am assembling a Vector 40 and have a question. I have used control horn retainers to hold the horn wire snuggly to the trailing edge of the horizontal stab. It seems though like there is going to be a problem in finishing between the wire and the horizontal stab. How do some of you handle this issue? I will be using polyspan and dope finish.

Hi Bob,

Next time, cover the stab before you permanently install the horn.  That way you can run the silkspan'polyspan all the way across th stab in one piece which seems to add just a touch more strength.

For now, just do the best you can to get the polyspan as close to the wire as possible and seal it well with dope.  You can clean off he wire a bit after finishing and before you mount the elevators so that it doesn't bind.
