Title: Picked up some new hardware in Witchita!
Post by: Jared Hays on May 29, 2016, 10:42:12 PM
Had a blast at the Witchita contest today.  I had a very successful day winning all three events I entered by very small margins!  Good competition all around.  Even got to watch a 12 year old (I believe) spank a bunch of guys in combat lol.  My dad unfortunately had an engine run lean on him, and a bit of a diabetic low blood sugar scare to clear the path into 1st in Expert.  Looking forward to Polk City next weekend!

Jared you and your Dad Gary both did well- congrats!  It was an added challenge with the lake on the flying circle.  Wet feet was a part of the contest for everyone.

Congrats!  We drove by there yesterday on the way back to Waxahachie about 9:30am and I saw a single combat flyer practicing on a circle.  I caught it out of the corner of my eye.

Thanks Dave, by the way was meaning to ask you if you noticed how my cardinal twerks the out board wing one way when I bang an inside corner and the other way when I bang an outside corner.  Does it have to much flap do you think,  I have been thinking about trimming them down a 1/4" at a time to see if it helps stop that.

And yes the water hazard was interesting to say the least  ;D

Jared what I saw was the inboard flap being too strong,  causing some hingeing.  You can correct that by adding a tab to increase area to the outboard flap or trim off the trailing edge inboard.  The tab out board temporarily can clue you about how much to trim inboard permanently if you choose.  Just cut and try until in turns flat both ways.  If the hingeing is around 45 degrees and up its flaps.  If it's on the bottoms its tip weight. A quick way to sort this out is do tight horizontal eights with the intersections up about 45 degrees.  Watch to see if the airplane rolls one way then the other at the intersection as you reverse control inputs.

That water on the circle reminds me of Topeka's Gage Park circle one year.  Hope every on had fun.  But, my sick puppy is coming around.

Great job!   I was the guy parked next to you guys.  I was also the one that got beat by Austin Minor!   I got past his dad and uncle though, which is somewhat of an accomplishment in combat.  Great contest and a lot of fun.  But more than that were all of the great people.  Cannot think of a better way to spend a long weekend.
