Photo sharing website changing
« on: October 09, 2012, 05:08:48 PM »
The Webshots photo sharing website where I have most of my control-line pics is changing its format and will no longer be a public access site after November. If I understand things correctly, people will only be able to view your pics after getting a personal invitation. I'm not sure how it will all shake out, but it loooks like I'll need to find a new site. I probably won't rebuild any of the current albums in a new site due to the large size of some of the albums and the time involved. If anyone wants to save any images from the current albums and you aren't a Webshots member, using the "print screen" function on the computer will probably due the trick although it will probably be a reduced size image. Be sure and click on"full size" first.  Any suggestions on other photo sharing sites would be appreciated.

A STRONG WORD OF WARNING ABOUT WEBSHOTS SELLING OUT TO SMILE!!! DO NOT! AND REPEAT DO NOT...WHATEVER YOU DO...DO NOT GO FOR THAT INVITATION TO TRY OUT THE FREEBEEEE OF THEIR NEW "SMILE" (SNYLE OR SNARL FOR A BETTER WORD!)
IT TOOK ME AT LEAST 3 TO 4 HOURS TO UNRAVEL THEIR TAKE OVER OF MY ENTIRE COMPUTER...WORSE YET!!!! THE ONLY WAY I COULD DUMP THE PROGRAM OFF MY COMPUTER WAS TO GO TO MY "RESTORE TO A PREVIOUS DATE" WINDOWS 7....BECAUSE WITH THE ADD N REMOVE PROGRAM IN MY WINDOWS...COULD NOT GET RID OF THE SMILE INFILTRATION OF MY COMPUTER...
YES! I AM YELLING!!!

Elwyn, you can get your own web site with unlimited bandwidth for about 10 bucks a month. Check out Hostgator..

Doesn't take long to learn what you would need to know just to store your pictures..

I just received an E mail from one of my computer genie' friends just down the street..who works full time for Microsoft. He also had been using WEBSHOTS in the past...and decided to bring up his old photos..and then decided to take up the FREE SMILE TRIAL TEST RIDE!

Jim was blown away at first...when suddenly not only his SCREEN SAVER DISAPPEARED but also wanted more info about his credit line than he wanted to give...at least he found that after SMILE takes over in December...if he doesn't decide to start a payment plan....AT LEAST THEY WILL SEND ALL HIS MONTHS OF PHOTOS BACK TO HIS OWN COMPUTER..
After playing with the SMILE downloaders etc...he then decided to remove all the program junk. He too found that it took considerable effort to erase all the little "tack on's" to his hard drive.
bottom line:
He suggested FIRST  just taking off only the photos you really want to save, soon as possible from their Webshot account...or just try waiting until the Dec Deadline just to  see if SMILE will actually honor their offer to return all photos back to long time customers  at N/C to their computers?
LL~ LL~If you believe they will...(then I have a Tacoma to Gig Harbor bridge  that I will sell you for $20.00
