Pete's Pretty Profile Plane
« on: April 15, 2012, 03:10:22 PM »
Pete Peterson put the first flight on his new Starfinder profile. Basically, it's a Norm Whittle revision of a Pathfinder. Power system is a Magnum XLS .36 with a "Utah" pipe. Tho it worked well on Norm's, Pete's first flight didn't go very well, with a very rich and slow run. Tank and/or pipe length issues are suspected. It did appear that the wings were level in upright flight, Pete!

It is, of course, a lovely piece of work, as are all of Pete's Planes! The graphics were apparently "borrowed", but I don't know who from. I like it a lot!  y1 Steve

Pete says he's flying Profile and Expert this year, no OTS and no Classic. Well, that's what he said!  LL~

Why don't you fly Classic and Advanced, to give Mark some competition?  LL~ Steve

thats assuming you have a classic airplane to fly Randy,,,, dont think the Shoestring will fly to well with those open bays grabbing the air,, and as I recall the Avenger needed some antifrustration attention?

Pete
You make me proud.  The pipe length should be fine; I used it on my 36 in Eugene.
BTW: this airplane can easily be converted to electric.  I converted mine to electric in about an hour.  That is why Pete has my pipe on his airplane.

Norm

Looks like he had a leaky fuel tank.  It didn't needle well and went fat in flight, pretty typical of that problem.

Mark,

Excuses, excuses. Had I not binked the prop on takeoff on my last flight...

Had I not smacked it on the maiden flight, had I not...

It's always something.

That pipe works well if you follow Norm's instructions. Even better would be to use Norm's own pipe.

Howard...It IS Norm's own pipe, coupler and header. It IS Pete's engine, and tank. The thing shook like a gurl dog on Saturday, and one of the mounting bolts fell out. Maybe it was left loose? On Sunday, the theory was that maybe that shaking did in the tank. The current prop is an 11-4 APC. On Saturday, it ran like half a blade was missing.  :o Steve

And Pete is normally so careful...

Sounds like some additional bench trimming is in order.

Knowing Pete I know the engine  is well broken in, the prop is balanced and the bolts are tight.   I hope the front end is solid. H^^

Great looking model!

Pete's erractic engine run could be due to fuel foaming in the tank.
