I just received my order from National Balsa today that I ordered on the 19 of this month. My order was very well packed, styrofoam,packing peanuts and the wood was wraped together with scrap to protect it. I was very pleased.

Man, I ordered most of $300 worth for National Balsa on the 7th of December. Not here yet, though it is said to be enroute (according to UPS tracking). the guy at National Balsa said he had to wait to cut some of it because he was waiting on a new order of 4lb balsa. Hey, I'd rather wait and get the good stuff. 

I just checked the order on ups.com. Says it's "in transit". Should arrive around the 3rd. Sigh ...

Like Lee, National takes pride in making the experience a pleasant one. Good Wood! It took 10 days from order to delivery.Ground shipping is affordable, anything else is out of my budget- like 3-4 X ground prices!

     I ordered from national balsa yesterday and when i asked for 4-6 pound balsa the lady taking my order said to be advised the most of the 4-6 pound balsa was stained but not defected!!!!

Balsa USA has generally had the wood at my door within 2-to-3 business days of my E-order.   Never a problem.

They cut the wood from the same trees as everybody else.  You have just as good a chance of getting light wood there are anywhere. 

When you ask for 4-pound wood, you are demanding only the "best" 15%.  Where does the rest go? 

Balsa USA also sells RC kits.  Hopefully, that's where the 10-12 pound wood goes.

At one time one of the largest uses was for liners in the large oil tanker ships. Do they still use balsa fot that?

I've still got some in the attic that came from WWII life rafts.

I didn't see on Balsa USA's site where they sell 4-6 pound wood.  Is it just a purchase it and sort yourself event?

Hi George - Balsa is still used for tanker insulation.  What has made supplies even tighter is the demand for balsa core material for composite windmill blades used for power generation.  Apparently the windmill makers can't turn them out fast enough.  Tom H.
