Pentastar Photos?
« on: February 27, 2017, 04:15:07 PM »
I am looking for photos of the Pentastar.
Got a kit from RSM and need to study up on it. Especially the cowl and front end in general.
Many thanks.

Note the wing LE - it's molded. I'm thinking of squaring off the ribs and going with a standard stick LE, it would work better in my CLC wing jig at the expense of a slight increase in weight.  8)

It's not about weight, or at least, not primarily about weight. It's about ensuring a symmetrical and accurate leading edge radius, which you can't guarantee when you just carve it.

I only found one in my files; might be one of the same as you've already got. Cowl contours are hard to draw, and not really "fixed in stone", but rather an artsy DIY project.

Pay attention to function (being able to pull the prop through while finger is on the venturi & being able to take the cowl off without removing either the NV or muffler, etc.), cooling vents, and hopefully a remote glowplug battery connection (mini-phone jack).  ;D Steve

Maybe. ST .60bb most likely, could be either a hemi or a squish-band head. I know Lou likes ST .60's.  H^^ Steve

It's a 76 of some variety. Runs great.

Steve,

I didn't know guys were using these mini-phone jacks?

Thought they were using the ones you just buy in your LHS.

They must have advantages?

I need one for the GBR3.

weight and reliability were the reasons I used a mini phono plug... cant speak for others,,
I only used it on a couple planes though, more reliable to connect directly to the plug,,
and of course now my connector has to carry a lot more current
For years the rat race had me going around in circles, Now I do it for fun!
