I had them on a few of my "PA" type ships in the late 60's that used them new fangled RC plastic hinges. You used them pretty much like the clips. Covered them with the cloth hinges that were also on most ships. Ambriod and Epoxy stayed on the outer surface and you could get them stuck in place. CA in the same zipcode would probably freeze them up.
A lot of planes, many of mine included, didn't attach the flap horn to the wing at all. With cloth hinges, the flap was so close to the wing TE that you would have to actually recess the horn into the wing to get the axis to match the flap TE. Attaching the horn created a bind. Instead we would firmly glue the horn to the flaps. Common inclusion of removable flaps was still about 10 years out. We had to invent adjustable leadouts and tip weight boxes first!
