Title: PCSing soon
Post by: Sean McEntee on February 26, 2016, 06:34:37 AM
I'm due for a PCS (also known as "moving" to normal people) sometime next summer.  Any friendly folks in the Ft Bliss, Ft Drum, or Ft Bragg areas?  Those are my options as of right now and local activity will play a factor in my request  ;D

Note:  To the Tucson and Cali crowd-  I already asked, and the answer was "no".  Grey Eagle pilots are in too high demand to be relegated to school instructors.  You would think that 5 deployments would earn me a break, but apperantly my career manager has other plans  HB~>

Sean of those choices you should consider Fort Bragg, there is a lot of stunt activity in that region that is reasonably close

but Ft Bliss would be tempting cuz of the closeness to Tucson....down side is a LOT of winds and longer hotter summers than we have here

I was at Drumm twice for long TDYs and the winters are brutal and long

5 deployments make you too valuable to lose!

I think Ty is confused about the location of Ft. Bragg (N.Calif.). Is Ft. Lewis an option? I don't think there's an Army base near the WSR.  D>K Steve

I never respond to Sean on these matters until he answers my question, "We're in the 'ell are those?"
Then he runs down all of thetowns and Stunt guys nearby!

Clearly you've been doing a really good job.  You can be proud of that part.

There is a REASON why Ft. Drum is home to the 10th Mountain Division! Unless you like rappelling down ice cliffs you might consider Ft. Bragg (the Army base, though the coastal town in Northern California is nice too).

Sean
Even tho I am retired AF, I have been to all 3 of the posts and my choice would be Ft Bragg.

Ft Bragg is not to far from Bill Little and 2.5 hr from Huntersville. I am less than 2 hours from Bragg very close to Huntersville. I have been to Bragg many times for DOD assignments. Bragg has a lot of computer combat training going on there now.

I am disappointed that Rusty has not chimed in

There are a few disadvantages to Fort Bragg for a soldier...each Army Fort has pluses and minuses
each Army Base has a peculiar culture and Fort Bragg is known for airborne operations and thus the entire installation has a HIGH level of PT expectation

For control line flying Ft Bragg NC is the best choice of the tree options

For Building the Fort Drumm option is best

For competition fling I think FT Bliss and it's closeness to Tucson is an viable option but daily / weekly flying is a challenge due to local weather
