Mike:

Reason?  I ask because I've never used PayPal, and if there's a problem with it I'd be grateful to know, so that I can take care to avoid it in future.  (Maybe it's something everybody knows about but me.  This would not come as a big surprise.)

Regards
John

I think Paypal charges the recipient
of the money 2.9 % unless it is sent
as a gift.

John, I know of a couple of reasons, which may not be Mike's.

1) They charge a pretty good fee, whereas a check is nothing.

2)  They delay transferring the money to your account, so I think they can make interest on your money.

3)  They have a grievance system, which is mostly good, but can be abused by scammers.

4)  They are owned by ebay.

I see that this is a bash on "PAYPAL" so I'll put my 2 cents worth into the conversation.

I have had both good and bad experiences with PAYPAL,
but 99.99% GOOD!

A charge? Of course. Does your credit card service give "Free" service? I think not!
A delay? Does your bank hold checks "til they clear"? Mine does....

Who cares who owns them? I sure don't. I care more about Chinese good in this country..............etc., etc., etc.

They are the fastest and best way to pay for goods that I know of AFAIC.

Jerry

PS: Burned? Hell I've been "burned" on this site! It's called "The cost of doing business".

Hey Guys, this is just a personal decision.  Didn't mean for it to be a topic of conversation.  It was just a change in policy for me pertaining to paying for kits etc.
As far as business transactions and transfer of funds, I have not had any problems.

Thanks
Mike

I used PayPal for a long time. When all is right, PayPal is great. However it is a prime target for hackers. I got hacked and they treated me like the criminal. I still am unable to use PayPal.

I use PayPal almost exclusively for on line purchases and have for many years.  I've never had a problem of any kind.  I think the fees are very reasonable for the service provided and the service has always been first class.  I've sent money to my kids absolutely free and they receive it almost immediately.  Try that on Western Union etc!!!

Mike this is not directed at you.  I understand your reasons for your decision.  However others here sometimes fall into the trap of "bashing" good companies...Incidentally what is wrong with being owned by E=Bay...one of the most successful companies in modern times.

Sheesh...some people!

Thanks, everybody.  So: you pays your money and you takes your choice!  I am now better informed and feel able to weigh up the pros and cons.

For what it's worth, I bought that adapter to graft my Sullivan starter and Makita battery together using PayPal's charge card system and my BECU Visa card. Didn't appear to be any fees or charges that I recall. Since I (almost) always pay off my charge card every month, it doesn't cost me anything to use, so I use it for almost everything. I won't use it for "fast food" places and my barber doesn't accept cards. I haven't asked either if they take PayPal.  ;) Steve

I mostly use it for buying stuff from other countries. It's just easier than wire wire transfer or related sorts of payment methods. I will sometimes use it when dealing with a new vendor as they do offer some assurance that I will get what I paid for.

The seller is the one that pays the fees, I have used it for years in both directions with very few problems.

Add an opinion.. Not taking PayPal costs sales, especially from modelers because many sell stuff to get liquid money... and where is that money... In their PayPal account.

I too have used PayPal ever since I started looking, buying and selling on the Ebay.  Comes in handy when someone pays too much, I can send a refund. H^^

Steve, The charge goes to the seller not the buyer. That's why cut rate gas stations charge more if you use a CC.

I agree with Bob.
If you don't take Paypal anymore you may not get many overseas orders. (Of course I'm assuming you do get O/S orders.)  ;D

It's the easiest way to buy stuff from overseas.

A reason not to use paypal:  Their policy prohibits use for "(j) ammunition, firearms, or certain firearm parts or accessories".

BATF Regulations for commerce in firearms and ammunition!  Very complicated and they probably don't want to get involved in that mess...More lawyers and expense!

There are certain firearms related items that they will process...Holsters etc!  I don't think they're anti-gun just anti BATF!

It's improved considerably over the years compared to what Ebay and PayPal used to be.
I've had no problems. It's the penance you pay to list on Ebay.

I respect vendor payment requirements. Paypal may seem convenient, but I've used personal credit card (over secure link) and personal checks. If someone doesn't do a lot of business on E-Bay, service and supplies are on a small scale, there is a cost and inconvenience to the seller for using Paypal. I've got no problems sending a check, as long as I know who I am dealing with.

You can do a direct money transfer to a friend.  That's usually no cost to either party.
