Anyone have some thoughts on what makes Paypal unattractive as a vehicle for dues payment to PAMPA?

I am not sure as to why except PayPal does charge a fee. Having said this it is best left answered by your Precedent or district director.

I have seen folks posting they have lost out using paypal, and will no longer take it. Personally I don't belong because personally I don't need it, I can usually get funds to wherever by conventional means, and life's complicated enough without more stuff to organise. Folks who do lose out are the e-bayers who "only accept paypal". They cut off a lot of people from bidding, including me. I tell myself it's their loss, and I still have my money! #^

On the other hand, I am reluctant to bid if the seller does not take PayPal.  Recently broke my rule and got a real bargain. ::)

There is no safer method of paying for something on Ebay than Paypal. You have more documentation than by ANY other method. Most people that refuse to use Paypal to buy something have no problem with sending a money order or cash/check. What is your recourse with either of these methods?
I would say that the sellers that refuse to take Paypal are the ones that are losing out.
No method of payment will protect you from someone that wants to rip you off.
Paypal leaves a better documented trail than any other method.

PayPal charges a significant fee, so if the buyer is American and I trust him, I prefer a personal check or some other fee-free payment.

However, for offshore transactions, there is ALWAYS a substantial loss in the the translation, and PayPal becomes the lessor of evils.

Did you see the TV series "Sleeper Cell"?
The Muslim terrorists told the Mexican drug dealers:
"This is far too  much money to carry across the border, use PayPal."

Good old PayPal,  right now I am trying to get funds back in my account that PayPal sent to the seller for a plane my grandson wanted.  It was paid for in plenty of time to be here for Christmas.  Needless to say it did not arrive.  I sent several E-Mails to the person to no avail.  After sending a complaint to PayPal I finally got a response from the person that they lost a good friend and have no record of the sale.  Today that person now has a negative report/feedback as E-Bay nor PayPal have done nothing.  Lesson learned, do not do business with someone with less than 100 sales.  Sorry Robert just had to get it off my chest.  You still have the best site.  By the way I still use PayPal and money orders.  DOC Holliday

I have just over 100 feedback 100% positive! I give everyone the service and products I would like to receive and I am pretty picky.

I continue to use paypal as it is a quick and easy way to do business. I would however share with you my story. After receiving several inquiries about items i did not list I checked with E-bay and they found and deleted those items. They asked me to change my password on all accounts and included personal bank accts. When i checked my paypal acct it was empty. Not a large amount but no help was offered after informing E-bay. I know of one other that went through the same series of events. I still use e-bay and as Robert says 100% positive feed back both as a seller and buyer. The people i have dealt with have been for the most part great. But I leave no money that I'm not willing to lose in my Paypal acct.

I'll let you know, soon. I bought an engine (on RCU) on December 30, and the seller is in Canada. We talked through the deal and I sent my money via PayPal. So far, no engine, no communication, no nothin'.

I initiated a Dispute Resolution on Friday, and PayPal said they'd "investigate". We'll see.

I have 500+ points and 99+% feedback. So far, no serious PayPal problem. I too have heard the horror stories.

I also like and use PayPal quite a bit.. I sell of stuff I no longer need and leave the money in my PayPal account. Have a PayPal debit card, makes for great mad money.. The stuff I sell usually has no value to me or it's software I wrote that I was paid to write in the first place but retained the rights to. As far as I am concerned any money in my PayPal account is free money and I can blow it on whatever suits my fancy at the time.

Only problem I ever had was a $400.00 welder I purchased from some jerk in California that was damaged when I received it.. Long story but PayPal ruled against my protest because it just so happened our email server started eating emails from PayPal thinking they were spam and I didn't receive an email I needed to respond to.. I fixed up the welder and it was a great deal to start with so in the end I really didn't loose anything.

Couple tricks...

Never log onto eBay or PayPal through an email, always use a short cut in your favorites and Never make your eBay and PayPal password the same.

It seems that the primary complaint about PayPal is the inablity to "bounce" a payment.

But, what the hey, a deal's a deal.  If I pay somebody with green, I can't pull it back, either.   For that matter, after a check clears, it's all over, too.

If bouncing payments is a high priority, MasterCard works best.
You can hollar "fraud" four months later and still get results.  At least temporarily, providing the seller doesn't counter-attack.

Hey Bob, also remember if you get an e-mail from either, check the E-Bay or PayPal site before opening.  A copy should be at the respective site.  If not there, forward to the appropiate spoof location.  I have a dozen so far this year.   DOC Holliday

Ralph, hate to upset the apple cart, but, making purchases in Canada while living in the good old USA takes awhile for delivery.  With customs it has taken over a month for an item to get to me from Canada.   I got one from merry old England in less time.   Even from Australia it takes less time.  Go figure.  My long time flying mate even works for the USPS.  DOC Holliday
