Title: Pattern question
Post by: Paul Taylor on May 21, 2011, 05:40:38 PM
Arlan and I got out this afternoon for a few windy flights. On my second flight after my insides I forgot to pull out inverted. I did a half lap and pulled it over inverted for six laps and did the rest of the pattern. So did I lose my points for inverted if this was a contest?

You loose points for the insides as you didn't exit the manover properly and you would loose pattern points.

Lost pattern points due to incorrect exit, but you *do* get points for your maneuvers (both insides and for inverted flight). That sort of thing is why the pattern points came back - you can't ding someone for their maneuver if the error occurs once the maneuver exit is reached - which in this case is the end of the third loop at the bottom. You completed the maneuver as prescribed, but you did an incorrect exit.

That's what happened to me at VSC '09 (they were using the '08 rules). The only thing different was that I went less than 1/4 lap before half-looping to inverted.   :-[   Steve

PS: You gotta think that there's some amount of "delay" that would NOT lose you the PP's. Would it be 10' or less? Opinions would vary, bet on that.

Opinions are all we have in stunt.

Well, not really. Sometimes PAMPA creates an unofficial judging supplement for the NATS and puts it on the web, but doesn't make any effort to put it into the rulebook.   :-[ Steve

Judging supplements (i.e. things that are aids to judging, but not actual rules) probably shouldn't be in the rule book.

Seems to me like if these supplements are intended to influence the judges opinions  (but aren't rules or in the rulebook), then it's not following the rules. Why would we want to do that?  :-[ Steve

What is in the rule book is what the judges should go by.  But, as stated some people have a different take on things. H^^
