Patern Bat revisited
« on: April 17, 2008, 05:37:38 PM »
I need some ideas on a fuel tank for this plane. The center of the wing is wide open. I thought about a Sullivan 2oz round with the tubes sticking thru the LE sheeting. A club member suggested a wedge inside the wing. the other suggestion was to cut off part of the sheeting ,add a false rib and make a compartment for a small tank. Any suggestions? i plan on mounting a TT GP25 for power.

Thanks
Steve

If you look in combat under "converted pattern bat" there is a picture of it so far. I have to get a tank in it before I can go any farther.

Make you a home made wedge tank to fit between the spars.  I did that with all the VooDoo's I ever built.  If you are running pressure you can put a Vienna Sausage can in behind the leading edge for a pacifier.  bladder tanks require a tube in between the leading adge and the spars.  DOC Holliday

Made the decision this morning to box the spar(center of wing) and cut the Le out and box in a space for the tank. Probably not the best solution, but this plane has sat for at least 5 years before I got it. I figure some of the glue joints aren't good anymore. I plan on cloth and epoxy for the tank cutout. Hopefully I haven't ruined it.
