Anyone have a link to Pat Johnstons plan list? If his kits cut per order?
Already been through all the usual kit manufacturers but never really dug through Pats kits.
Thanks

Pat announced, not long ago, that his shop would be down for awhile because he was moving. I'd imagine that he'll be letting us know when he's ready to crank up the laser cutter. With most these things, it'll likely take longer than the original estimate, which was "a month". D>K Steve

Cool thanks for the replies.

No not the one that was one ebay lol. A friend gifted me this one. Going to get a few more kits built under my belt before tackling that one.

The Super Chief is done and flying. A McCoy .35 in the nose and a BY&O 10 x 6. it weighs 43 ounces. I'm trying to get it level at 5 feet with my hand in neutral.

Looks good... plans says I need .46 on up. But yours is scratchbuilt with far better wood.

There is some confusion about the "Super Chief". The CLC kit (I have one in the stack) is a much bigger Tom Dixon design, and has some LE sweep. Dave Royer has been flying his around the NW for years (and years!), with a Merco .49 or .61. Dave likes his Mercos, and has another one in a Humongus, which we've also seen him fly for years and years. The .49 and .61 use the same case casting, so the .49 is very heavy for a .49. I'd suggest a ST G.51, 2 Star .60, Merco .61, "Merco" Metamorph .61, Stalker .61 or bigger, ST .60bb, etc.
Recently, BMJR kitted another "Super Chief", which is based on GMA's revisions to the early Veco Chief...but it's a .35-.40 size. I guess that since CLC is gone, they figured it was ok to use the name. It is, but it's still going to cause some confusion. The BMJR kit sounds like it would be Classic legal, but the CLC kit is only legit in PA. H^^ Steve

Is it true that Pat is moving to North Alabama?

I thought it was Walter Umland moving to Alabama.

Nope, Pat Johnston moved about a mile from where he was living.

The CLC Super Chief is not Classic legal.
But it is Nostalgic 30 Legal. Tom Dixon designed his Super Chief in the Mid. 80's. I kitted it in 1989 with his permission.

The original Super Chief was built in or before 1950. George Aldrich based the Nobler on the Super Chief. It has a wingspan of 54 .5 inches. Old time, Classic and with the right paint job war bird legal.

Yes yours is Perry. Mine is the CLC kit and is larger than the original.

Many will miss the PDF for Pat's Plans, but I wanted to suggest copying the PDF and saving it. ALSO NOTE that the email address and probably snail mail address are both NG. With any luck, Pat, Randy or Mark will be along shortly to give an update on those. S?P Steve

It's been a little over a year since I bought short kits from Pat, at that time his email was: patsplans@yahoo.com
