Thanks for the link, it gives me some basic info I can use. That build didn't have the LG on the fuselage. I guess it's a couple of formers off the motor mounts to a ply pad to mount the LG? The bottom can be a flat sheet 1/8th, 3/16ths?

Yes it can be a flat sheet mounted to the bottom of the fuselage sides. 1/8 birch aircraft grade plywood is adequate. The plate should be reinforced with triangular strips at the inside of the fuselage to increase the gluing area, and I would only use epoxy for the joints.
If an aluminum gear is used it can be bolted to the plate with 4-40 screws into blind nuts inserted into the back of the plate. Three screws are adequate, two near the front of the gear and one centered near the back. This also makes the gear removable. Mounting a wire gear that way is a little more complex.
Do you plan to use an aluminum or a wire gear?
