Panel Lines for Dummies! Keep it simple.
« on: August 02, 2014, 05:38:37 PM »
I'd like some panel lines on my P-40 Warhawk.

Yes, I'm familiar with Rapidograph pens and ink, even used them many times. I choose not to buy or use them.

I expect to win no awards with this model, and the lines don't have to be perfect and not black. So simple is my choice.

Someone uses Sharpies?

Or whatever?

Suggestions?

Keep in mind, the model will be two part cleared.

Thanks in advance.

Charles

I got something similar to Robert at Hobby Lobby.  Six black pens with different sized points.  Much easier than my old drafting pens.

I got a pen at Office Depot and put up a post about it here some time back. I'll look for the post.

Worked with Brodak clear.

Go to an art supply store.  Get 'Sharpie' pens in black, grey and silver (yes, silver).  Also 'Prismacolor' pencils in various shades of grey, rust and brown to simulate exhaust stains.  Seal overall with a clear topcoat.  (This little profile A-26 used Minwax Polycrylic satin rattle-can spray.)

Guys,

Thanks for all the info and the link.

Mike,

What a surprise! really good looking A-26. H^^  The movie "Always," featured an A-26. Good film.

Wish your first photo enlarged a bit more.

I should consider some surface detailing besides the panel lines. I didn't know that Minwax Polycrylic was fuel proof or available in an aerosol can?

Thanks for the info, photos and the reply!

Not sure if it is really fuel resistant, since that little Scale job had to fly for only 10 laps minimum.  No damage noted, though.  And yes, Polycrylic is available in spray cans.  Check with Ace Hardware.

PolyCrylic or PolyUrethane? I think Mikey meant Urethane.  H^^ Steve
