Title: panel lines

Hi. I was thinking of trying panel lines and was wondering if a Sharpie pen would work. The way I understand the process, is you put a line down and then when finished dust on a couple of coats of dope to seal and then finish as normal. Have I missed something? I tried it on an old airplane and it seemed to work.Just seems too easy not having to mess with drafting pens. Thanks Doug

And if you mess up before the clear is sprayed, alcohol will remove it.

Go to Office Depot and get a $8 pen. I did it on my last profile and it worked out ok.
Do a search and it should turn up my thread and a picture of the pen.
Also suggest you search my YouTube channels for some of Windy's videos. He did a few on ink lines.

  Top Flite used to put out a pen that worked Ok also. Do a search on the forums and all sorts of stuff should come up, including usin the Rapido-graph pens and proper technique.

Doug,

I did a Thread some time back on panel lines. "Secret Exposed." A search should bring it up. It was my first attempt actually.

I tried a few pens and did clear coat tests.

Not all pen ink is the same and clear did attack a few pens.

Here's the pen that was the easiest to work with and clear had no effect on the ink. The model also. I purchased a black and a blue one.

Here's a little bit of info on some technique that worked for me some time back.  Like anything else, practice makes for perfect.

I used the Top Flight pen for the black lines, and then went looking for a local replacement from it.  I found Staedtler pens at the local Staples.  These are permanent ink pens, available in different tip widths.

I use an old carbide-tip drafting pen with water-soluble (not permanent) ink.  Goofs in water-soluble ink are easier to get off.   Spraying with clear locks down either type ink.
