PAMPA registration
« on: November 25, 2011, 03:06:01 PM »
So, what's the process these days to joining PAMPA? Used to be you sent money to Dave Gardener. But who do you send money to these days? And did they ever develop a way to pay online? If that would have been in effect last year, I would have rejoined, but it seemed such a pain to join that I just never got around to it.

Never mind. I found out that Noel is the guy and we are still in the dark ages and I'll need to fill out a paper registration form and send it by snail mail with actual check or money order.

Maybe someday we'll catapult into modern times and we can do this online. Oh well, it is what it is.

Don't call it inconvenient.  Call it "quaint", and enjoy the experience.

The problem with electric is that once you get the smoke generator and sound system installed, the plane is too heavy.

There's options.  Here's the form -- Randy reminded me I should join up, so I just printed it out and will send it off in a minute or two.

Maybe the treasurer could set up a personal PayPal account just for PAMPA stuff. I think that "personal" transactions are not charged a fee vs. business transactions. Of course one would still have to fill out a "quaint" piece of paper and "quaintly" snail mail it in.

A simple solution that I have used from Oz for years—

Fill in the form with all the details and signature, scan the form in a graphical format or a PDF that is really a graphic—not editable—and email it.

By ensureing that your form is a graphic, web crawlers and other nasties are unable to find credit card numbers or signatures.

After reading my latest Stunt News on line, anybody that is a computor wizard willing to donate their time and talent to updating the site, could volunteer.   I think I read that it was going to cost around $500.00 to get the upgrade on the site for all this electronic stuff.  The NCLRA has on line renewal using PayPal.   They as for a small fee to cover the PayPal fee.  This electronic age is like laser cutting,  it's making us all lazy. Actually I see absolutely no need for a "paper trail".  If a document is emailed, or otherwise electronically transmitted, the "trail" is there.

During my term as a trustee, some real opposition to moving forward with the technology was very evident.  Personally, I didn't renew simply because I had to mail a form and just couldn't remember to do it.

Sign up online and pay by Pay Pal or other means.  With membership down from its glory days I would suggest making it easier for people to join.  Anyway, why charge extra for  Pay Pal?  The fee is what... $2 or less?  Man, if the poor house is that close, something is bad wrong............
