Decal Printing Kit
« on: March 09, 2011, 07:48:10 PM »
I found an image I want to turn into a decal for the Miss Behave. Do the inkjet decal printing kits work?

I also use the decal paper from Micro-Mark, for prototype projects here at SIG.  Print on my Epson Stylus injet printer.  Let dry overnight.  Next day mist on a very light coat of low-shrink clear dope (small Badger spray gun or Badger airbrush).  Let dry several hours.  Check for reaction.  If okay, mist on another coat.  A couple hours later a slightly fuller coat.  Let dry 24 hours and apply to the model.  I've never had a problem yet (fingers crossed) starting right off with clear dope for the seal coats, skipping the Crystal Clear that they recommend.

I use the Testors decal paper from Hobby Lobby, (the craft store), and after the ink has dried, just brush them with dope. Then cut them out and apply to model, and dope some more.

Below is an example of ink jet printed decals on P-51B prototype.

Nose checks, Shangri-La bird, kills mark, star & bar are all inkjet.  All on white decal paper - you can see the edge on the star & bar.

VFT code letters are white vinyl cut.

I just take it to my mate who runs his own decal buisiness - can scan it - generate it  and give it back to you for a small fee.
