Paint for toolbox
« on: January 30, 2014, 05:25:47 PM »

Since I was not able to fly due to bad weather I spent my time in building a toolbox out of 1/4 and 1/8 birch plywood to carry my fuel and things. I would like to know what paint you guys would recommend to paint it.

I used spar varnish on mine.  Water proof and resists dings.

I brush paint my field boxes with Rustoleum out of a can. I prefer grey, they have one that's kind of a Battleship Grey. I don't bother with any primer so depending on the color sometimes it takes a couple coats to give nice even coverage. Give it a few days to dry thoroughly and it's pretty much bulletproof. y1

Very nice Box Juan.

I agree with the Rustoleum Gray...but think spraying it from the can is a lot easier than brushing.  I would spray it with Rustoleum Primer first.  It sticks a lot better and gives better coverage for the paint.

Absolutely use a primer and sand it.
If you don't EVER want to hafta paint it again.... polyurethane deck enamel. As thin a coat as you can apply it.

I got lazy and bought some tackle boxes/tool boxes.  The one with a handle and wheels really helps.  Xan sit on one, also!  Plus, they come in colors........ mostly gray and black, though.  LOL!!

P.S. Yours looks nice and either RUSTOLEUM, polyurethane, or epoxy paint will work.

Thanks for the advice guys,Rustoleum is going to be. I had used in the fuse of a Brodak Superfly and it took forever to dry but once dry it has lasted. The fuse still look as good as when I did it years ago. I started as you suggested with primer saturday and today I did the sanding and gave it another coat of primer. Tommorrow I hope I will have time to sand it and start painting, I`m going to paint it white. Here is my progress.

There was a San Jose flier that brought his scale F8F Controline Bearcat out one morning, with matching Navy Blue flying box, with Stars & Bars and numbers!

Definitely got some 'double takes'.
