Paducah, KY Contest, Road Conditions!
« on: August 16, 2016, 07:50:06 PM »
I'm heading to Paducah, KY this Friday morning for Western Kentucky, Southern Illinois Stunt Championships, and I'm wondering if there are any down state guys that know what I-57 from Mount Vernon to Marion looks like? I have heard about a long, one lane construction zone, but can't find anything specific on the IDOT web site. I don't really trust the web site to be up to date and accurate. I have been going to Allen Brickhaus' contest since he had it in Metropolis, (and that was a LONG time ago) and don''t EVER remember when they were NOT working on I-57 some where along the line! I'm towing a trailer back that way for Tom Morris, and would like to stay on the interstate with that. I know the route down I-55 through Cape and then through Cairo and southern Kentucky, and always take that on the way home to avoid Sunday afternoon Kentucky Lake traffic. Anybody down that way got any reliable road intel???
   Thanks in advance,

Southbound it was a major backup when I went to FF Nats. On the way home I took a parallel detour. I would recommend it.

Thanks for the update, Dan. Looks like I'll be taking the southern route both ways.

I think that I took 37 at either Benton or W Frankfurt and went through Marion. It moved well enough. There are LOTS of electric signs warning of the delay and backup prior to getting stuck in it.

Are the roads to Paducah actually paved?

We are heading our early friday morning for the contest , it is a short hop of 8 hours , so we should be flying at the field bid mid afternoon.

Looking forward to the get together  at Paducah .

The worst roads  on our trip ,should be around Knoxville , heard they are paved now, even have lines on them .

being from North Carolina , we love red dirt roads

    Hey Chris!
Yeah, he's got the 660 going pretty good now, or he probably wouldn't be taking it to the contest. He found a three blade carbon prop in his stash that he's liking on it. Hope the weather man cooperates a bit and lets us fly all weekend. I'll catch up with you soon. Heading out to the club meeting tonight.

Hate I will miss it this year. Had to call a plumber out and he gladly took all my contest funds and then some.  :'(

   Hey Keith!
Some times it doesn't seem so! There is a section of I-57 between Mount Vernon and Marion that they have been working on since the Dead Sea was sick! If i was traveling really early in the morning or late at night it  might not be a problem, but during the day, I-57 is a pretty heavily traveled highway. If they have it pinched down to one lane and you get behind a bunch of trucks and vehicles towing boats or campers, you just can't get any where fast.
