PayPal E mail scam
« on: February 26, 2025, 07:19:27 AM »
I received an E mail that appeared to be from Pay Pal noting a $799.99 transaction that I had made and invited me to link via their link if I cared to dispute it.  Of course I just deleted the message and logged into Pay Pal my own way.

This revealed "no action" in the last 90 days.

With no offense to Pay Pal itself, this bogus transaction thing is a way criminals use to worn into your accounts.

I get these scams almost daily.   One of the problems with them is that they use an old, now inactive, paypal email address which makes it look legitimate.   What I have done with some new ones is to forward them to the FBI Fraud division.  Probably doesn't do anything but it makes me feel better!  If you worry that this would confirm that your email address is valid, don't.  They already know it is.  Theirs is probably not but the metadata on the forwarded email will be.  If you want to be on the internet at all, you can't hide from these scammers, you just need to learn to ignore them.

Have to go.  A Nigerian estate lawyer needs my bank routing number for the $5,000,000 I inherited from a distant uncle.  And I didn't even know I had one there! #^

forward them to the FBI Fraud division.

Ken

The division is now comprised of three guys and led by Trumps former caddy.

I get so many scam emails and phone calls that I now assume everything is a scam.  Emails saying "thank you for your recent purchase".  This recent purchase can be most anything.  McAfee, Norton, Geek Squad, Pay Pal. You name it.  The scam is to get you to contact them and then they try to get personal information and credit card number in order to "cancel the purchase."

Same with phone call scams.  A new one every day.  IRS scams, Social Security, health care, etc.  It never ends.

One day, I got a call from some guy, with that very noticeable accent.  He said he was from the Family Medical Center.  What the hell is that?  When I asked what that was, he said they work with Medicare to keep a person's medical records up to date.  Yeah, right!  He said they lacked the name of my family doctor.

I told him I was all in favor of accurate records so I told him my family doctor was Dr. Henry Jekyll.  After a minute or two, he came back and said there was no such doctor listed in Fort Worth.  So, I told him to look up his assistant, Edward Hyde.  Sorry, he said, no such person listed.

Too bad, I said, and hung up.  Sometimes, I like to yank their chain a bit.

I get so many scam emails and phone calls that I now assume everything is a scam.

I receive 10 to 100 scam calls and emails daily. I now have my phone set to ignore calls unless you are in my contacts; otherwise, the call goes directly to voice mail. So, if you are trying to call me, leave a message, and depending on the importance of the message, I might get back to you. PayPal scams are easy to spot. Unless they address you by name, they are a scam. Then, look for the header and email address. Pay_Pal, PaY-Pal, and P@ypal are not legit.

I am up to 7 calls daily, I don't answer the phone any more. All my friends know to leave a message..  Let's see, one wants to buy my house, one wants to update my Medicare, one wants to help me get rid of my time Share (gone 9 years ago), one wants me to give money to some police thing, two are politicians begging for money (they make more in one month than I do a year) and once a Dr's office called to verify an appointment.  D>K

When I have to buy something on line, I insist on using my Discover Card.
Discover is very good at letting me challenge, dispute, refuse, and deny bogus charges.
Plus, I have an option that sends me an E mail if anything over $100 goes onto my bill.  This feature triggered my wife to get a separate card for her secret spending which is big savings to me.

Forward the emails to PayPal — phishing(at)paypal.com and let them take care of it.

As I understand it, they block the source email addresses.

I have not gotten any in a while,. but learned to forward any suspected email to PayPal at spoofpaypal@paypal.com, or something like that. I always get a response back and after doing this religiously I have fond that the spam nd phishing emails have stopped. If I don't know what an email is or if I know I didn't solicit anyone's goods or services, I delete it without even opening. I delete and block any spam phone calls als that they have slowed down or stopped. So if emailing me or texting me i better know who you are!!

Thanks. That means that I qualify for a high level cabinet position in the Trump administration.

Here is some really intelligent stuff that Trump posted on Truth (Pravda) social:

https://www.cnn.com/2025/02/26/world/video/trump-ai-gaza-video-breakdown-digvid

Note the Statue of Liberty like golden figure of DJT

More brilliance from the golden one:

https://www.cnn.com/2025/02/25/politics/us-gold-card-foreigners-trump/index.html

First up for the gold card; Vladimir Putin. Doesn't the statue of Liberty say something like "give me your tired Russian Oligarchs yearning to breathe free"?
I think it's hilarious the way Trump trolls weak-minded leftists.  Every single one of you take the bait EVERY time.
As far as Putin is concerned,  weak, democrat Presidents allowed Putin to invade Ukraine both times. You leftists have short memories.

I got an email from a "friend."  "She" said she was stuck in Europe.  I do not remember what country.  Her credit card was declined and she needed air fare to get back to the U. S.  When I looked at the email address, I noticed that it was one character different from her real address.  I knew this woman, and I had her email address.  So, I could see the one character difference.

I asked "her" a few questions.  Where did we first meet?  What do I look like?  How tall?  How much do I weigh?  How old am I?  The return message I got was a terrible attempt to salvage the scam.

I get calls from "investors" wanting to buy my house.  I refuse all offers.  Where can I go and live any cheaper than where I am now?  The callers will say things like "I am offering you over twice what you paid for it."  Well, so what?  Taking inflation into account, I could not buy an equivalent house for what they are offering me.  They have no counter argument for that.

My house is paid off, with some improvements made over the years.  A new house will not be built any better so I stay where I am.

Right!  I would take the money and run if I got enough to make it worthwhile.  But, I would not break even if I sold my house at the offers I am getting.

The old DOC has not used PayPal since my grand daughter with drew four large amounts of money and I was never notified until it was too late to argue or debate the with drawals.  Have called the people to have them remove my e-mail which they haven't done yet.  Have changed my password and removed my bank and credit cards.  I also went to my bank to make them put a note about my account that I will not or don't want the bank to pay them.  Seems bank also has other clients with PayPal problems. Bob; You don't want to say that here in Santa Cruz..............even a cheap house is $1 mil. These houses in my subdivision are going for 1.2-UP for a 2 Bdrm house. I paid $29,000 for this house (3Bd, 2Ba) 55 years ago and i thought it was too much! HAHAHA The one across the street was listed for $31 and I said NOBODY will buy it at that high price! DUH!

Doc,You need to sue your granddaughter even though it won' do any good, it will teach her a lesson.

I see cases like this on Judge Judy several times a week.

Good luck, Jerry
