Title: oz nats 2014
Post by: PJ Rowland on December 26, 2013, 10:52:17 PM
Arrived today in 100+ deg temp in ALBURY AUSTRALIA for the oz nats. Bolted the model together and will head out later today. All the top guys should be here and I know there are a few electric setups coming . Im still using the 5port pa75 on pipe so will be good to test it in competition.  Comp starts on Sunday and will try to update as time dictates.

Day 1 of practice and all 4 circles were in use. There is an igor setup maxbee. Brian eather was flying his stalker firecracker and there weere lots of people who struggled with thermals and brisk winds. Albury always produces less lift and power due to the heat and beind 285m above sealevel. Off to register now will try to get some photos up inbetween flights hopefully ill do better than last year redemption but  there are atleast 5 nats champions left who eat up these contests. Current tempva pleasant 38 deg. Might pop a jumper on..

Might pop a jumper on..

I presume that's Australian for doing something with a kangaroo you don't want to know about.

Good luck PJ.  Not missing the 38 deg C Albury weather AGAIN and enjoying the pleasant 24 deg C here inside the house at N. Richmond.  S?P

Howard, jumper is Strine for a pullover—usually woolen. At 38°C,  PJ is taking the pi$$ by suggesting that such a temperature is cold for Oz. In actual fact, 38°C is 100.4°F—still pretty bl**dy hot.

Not taking the pi$$ about being here but yes to the jumper. Its pretty warm and a dry heat . There was no more flying done by me during the evening session the wind kicked up and swang around to the south 15+ im not sure if anyone else flew we went past and didntsee much action. Day 2 tomorrow more practice for many classic stunt starts at 9am so ill be dancing between trying to fly that and  trying to practice for expert. Im off with Rhiannon for dinner to have a roo steak. Howard thats not rauncy aussie slang we eat kangaroos best steak u've had!!. Pics tommorow weather forecast is for more wind.

Good Cajun dishes, such as gumbo, begin with a good roo, too.

Is that Kangaroo steak as good as our Kansas buffalo steak and hamburgers?  I am talking about real Buffalo meat not the stuff McDonalds does.

We've had Kangaroo steak from our Lidl stores over here, very nice. Had a buffalo burger on our last U.S. visit, - at least I can say I've had one. I was assured it was the real deal, but it was dry and unappetising as dust!

Classic photos. The scoreboard doesnt show round 2. I top scored in rd1. We fly a different pattern out here for classic and no less than 1/3rd of the field forgot a maneuver.  Peter white was flying a superb gieseke nobler .40 and put up a great round 2 score which beat round 1. This stayed until reg towell who has won classic plenty oftimes flew a great flight to be 10 points better. Rd 2 scores were sll going up so I knew I had to cash in and put in a great score. Until I forgot the vertical 8! ! Schoolboy error! As my dad would say. I ended up 3rd.

Reg was flying a brand new mark 1 Thunderbird complete with Fox 35 and authentic burp. In this day of high zoot and big bore hardware, this classic set up was a welcome change.

Winds were mild, scoring was good. Open is tomorrow.

We had a bush fire close but that was under control faily quick

 Congrats PJ, keep on truckin'!

Thanks for the pics too, looks like some great weather. Getting ready for our club's New Years Day fun fly up here. It's going to be uh, great, the forecast calls for a high of SEVEN DEGREES.

 Oh yeah BTW, that's farenheit.
