Personal laser cutter

Check this out..

http://www.micromark.com/microlux-laserknife-2525-laser-cutter-engraving-machine,11921.html

Couple grand and you can own your own personal laser cutter. The cut area is only 9.8 inches square but could do most of what one would need.
MicroMark isn't known for having the best prices and it might be possible to find someone else importing the same machine at a better price.

That looks cool Bob.

It also requires a step down transformer  :-[, ...but what's an extra $90 when your spending $2K.

My only concern would be the size limit of the piece. I guess you could splice most root ribs.
Do you think it would handle most small parts and ribs for a 60" Stunter?

If you do a little bit every day it will get done, or you can do it tomorrow.

Dave, thanks for the suggestion. I had never heard of a maker space but googled it and found one in downtown Denver that has both a laser cutter and a 3-D printer. High on my list of places to check out.

Looking at table top lasers the cheapest ones I would consider are staring around $3500. Make sure you can replace the gas tube. Then you will need a vent system, a computer to put in the program you want to use I had autocad when I owned Starlight Model rockets. And you need an air compressor to blow the junk away from the cutter head. (I used a large fish tank pump). What you are wanting to cut also plays into it. Balsa you need at least 10 watts, light ply 15 watts, airplane grade 3 ply 20 watts. Just to give you an idea. also is is almost guarenteed if you get a smaller one you will want a larger one shortly there after. The one I ended up with could cut 18"X20". I got rid of mine 5 years ago when I closed Starlight Model Rockets. there are times that I wish I kept it.
