We had a great turnout at Fort Jackson today, everybody but Rich Malik, I hope he's alright. The weather was just as we expected, light winds, but with the usual extra dose at our hilltop site. Didn't bother us a bit other than the occasional thermal 180* switcharooz. Mike, Wayne, Bob and I started the day, and later Danny Brown an RC member of the Jackson Flyers came with some amazing warbirds. A big 7 channel ducted fan F-15 eagle that was an awesome flyer on its maiden flight. He made it look so much fun and barely had to do any trimming at all. The graphic trim on the Eagle was perfectly detailed, even the landing lights looked real in the air. That fan roared as it streaked over the runway. He was a skilled pilot too, better than many we see out there, perfect takeoff pullouts, and putting it down dead center of the runway every time.
Danny was very surprised and interested in what our stunters can do. In one of my movies we have a good discussion as I explain how CLPA works while we watch Wayne fly a crisp pattern with one of Tom Morris' Cavaliers. He brought it home from Triple Tree to work on an electrical problem, and today was its maiden day. I think these movies are pretty entertaining. And though I was happy with my flights from inside the circle, this video with Wayne critiquing as I fly, really shines the light on things I badly need to work on. I really overestimated my skills, even though I know they are improving. The 1st place trophy swelled my head too much to wear my hat for a while. This first video cleared that up. After 2-1/2 years of learning this sport, I'd hope to be farther along, but I spend more time having fun and less time concentrating, but that's just me. So be it.

And the comic sequel, I critique Wayne's flight, but I don't pay attention very well, instead yakking with Bob and Mike.

Here's a group pic.
Danny, Wayne, Rusty and Mike. Bob had already jumped in the Ferrari and hauled ass outta there.

Ane here's another video installment. This first one is pretty good, I discuss CLPA with one of our club's RC guys while Wayne maidens Tom Morris' e-Cavalier.

Here's the last one for now, Bob and Mike:

Hope y'all enjoyed my video productions.
That may well be my last flying until after the Beach and the Brodak Fly-in are history. late June or early July. When I return I should be flying my Twister and my Re-Nobler

Your pattern is looking real good. Nice to get a running commentary that is brutally honest. It helps a lot.
Hope to watch more later.

Hi Shug. Thanks for the generous evaluation. Boy, I sure do think they look better from inside the circle. I should have done this a long time ago. I have been overestimating the quality of most of my stunts. I'll try to raise my game this summer. I'm only good for 3 flights once a week at best, so that slows the learning curve a bit. I'll keep on hacking. Looks like it'll be the 1st of July when I get to fly again, then smooth sailing all the way to October.
See you in the funnies,
Rusty
