Title: Our Sport must be more thrilling that we suspect!
Post by: peabody on April 14, 2008, 07:24:08 PM
Yet another of our group has suffered a heart attack....!!!! Another soul destined to eat bland food similar to what farm animals graze upon.

And I thought that control line was a sedate sport.....it sure must be a lot more thrilling than is apparent!

Heal up Dennis!

Yeah, it's me, Dennis the Strange. In fact the heart attack was "strange," symptoms not at all as I expected. Mostly indigestion. Pain in my jaw that came and went. Arm pain that also came and went. (Tip offs.) Eventually three days later I checked it out as the symptoms worsened. Go right away. I was very lucky. Watch yourselves folks. The sooner a serious blockage is opened up, the less the damage. I suffered a bit of damage to the back wall and bottom of the heart. My cardiologist of eleven years put in two stents, one behind the other, in a difficult to get to artery. Very good job. Lucky. He's a skilled fellow. (I had bypass surgery eleven years ago. You'd think I'd be more cautious. In the future I WILL!) the upshot is I feel better than I have in years. Positively zippy. Actually went to the field 4 days after the procedure. I am cleared to fly and will this weekend. My job these days is to be cautious and not overdue. Actually, I feel that good.

Vegetables. Veggie burgers. Fruit. Loosing weight. Exercise. Pills. Check for diabetes. Walking the CL circle, round and round, not bad exercise, if you manage five or six flights in a day.

The medical system is pretty good as long as you get a Doctor who's skilled. One you like is also a plus.

Ten years ago the stents were too large, the cath equipment not fine enough. I'd have been out of luck. Or I would have had my chest opened again for bypass. (Not fun.)

Check out your symptoms. Life is great. Good to be walking around.

Congrats Dennis.  Glad you wised up eventually.  Would hate to lose you.  But I'll have to haul your a** over the coals for waiting so long!!

Dennis, although I don't know you I'm glad to hear your doing so well. By the time my dad was my age 57 he'd had 2 heart attacks, luckily through preventive medication I'm still at 0. I also quit smoking 3 weeks ago and plan on keeping that number at 0. Best of luck and keep flyin.

Thanks Phil for your concern! The Doc asked me why I waited, I said, "dumb." He said most people wait. Thinks the medical folks need to get the word out better. GO RIGHT AWAY! Also, we need a comprehensive run down of symptoms. (Pain in the jaw, arm pain, stomach upset, pressure in the chest. I was told of a person who's angina symptom was back pain...) Also, do the stress test, to check out your condition. There is no magic bullet solution to heart disease. But it can be managed.

One Dennis to another - GLAD turned out OK.  Don't over do it too soon, I recommend lots of time on the stunt circle, and no yardwork!

Hi Dennis M.,

Glad it worked out as well as it did.  Now, the second warning was given, I don't know if we get a third!  Take care of yourself, plenty of people count on you.  Do all the right things.......

Dennis, glad you're ok and already back on your feet!  (oh, by the way, any hottie nurses like the babe in the pizza place last July?) n~

Getting fixed now sure beats having a heart attack at Brodaks later in the summer!

No need to worry guys..... The Philly Flyers agreed to put Dennis through a Philly style boot camp!!! :o You won't recognize him by the time Brodaks rolls around. :P I think we may have forgotten to tell Dennis about it though?  ???

But seriously Dennis had the heart attack, had the stints put in and showed up at the flying field before most of us ever heard about it. Amazing! This just gives me one more reason to give him a hard time.  ;D

See you Thursday or over the weekend Dennis.

Mike

Mike, about that building jig. Definitely. You're in my will. Thursday night. What to do. As the Philly Flyers indulge in the three basic food groups. French fries, Pizza and ice cream. Salad? Those guys are liable to put something (alive) in my salad.

Gee. Having a heart attack makes for a decent length thread. More fun tho to stir the pot.

THANKS FOR THE CARD and the good words.

Best,

Dennis
