Our lucky 4th of July….
« on: July 06, 2008, 06:39:55 PM »
We were invited to a friend of the family’s on the 4th for a cook out and games. This guy has his own Cessna plane. He also has a friend that likes to build his own planes and sitting next to his Cessna was his buddies brand new RV 9. I asked about the little red plane and was quickly invited over for a closer look. He proceeded to tell me about the plane, 180 hp, and full aerobatics. Next thing he said was get in. He did not have to tell me more then once. We were fired up and off we went. He did a hard turn and pulled a little over 3g’s. I told him not to do that again or he would see what I had for breakfast. He then let me take the stick. It was a smooth flight and after we landed Ryan came up to me and said, “man I would have chewed off my own arm to go.”  I said it was being in the right place at the right time. The weather turned a little sloppy and the guy found a hole and flew out. Before we left, the gentleman with the Cessna learned that Ryan was going to collage this fall to learn how to fly. He invited him out the next afternoon and offered to take him up in his Cessna. So Saturday we showed up and Ryan got to go up in the Cessna and took full control. They were up for almost 2 hours. They did 2 touch and go’s. Ryan said on the first one he did not pull back when instructed too and the pilot had to pull back at the end of the runway. The next one he did as was instructed. He said he lined it up, got to drop the flaps, throttle it back and held the glide path until touch down. Ryan said that this pilot gave him the heading and he had to fly it. Ryan told me at the end he let him fly over the lake and just told him to fly where he wanted. Ryan said he dropped down to about 800 ft and flew around the lake. I sure wish I was with him. Seeing how I had my stick time the day before in the hot little red plane, I let my youngest son and his friend go up with Ryan.
Here are a few photos.

PS- The guy was kind of picky about posting pictures of his plane, so I blotted out the numbers. Something to to with it being a Experimental plane.

Paul, I have really good eyesight and can read the N number in the takeoff pic.  ;D

BTW, you're a lucky DOG!
