Perfect flying conditions but upon arrival, I was told that the park will be shut down until further notice. All gates were chained! All state parks, hiking trails etc. are also closed!
Is there no more sense left in this country?

Are you talking about a private flying field or one which is on public property?

Hi Steve:
Our flying site is located in a public park that is maintained and owned by the local township. There are about seven baseball fields and about the same number of fields where football, soccer and cricket are played. Of course there is a large walking track, children’s playgrounds large pavilion and large restroom on site. This facility is very well maintained.
I will bet that when the Little League people discover that they are unable to play or practice there, the gates will open! This is a very influential group of people.
Be well,

Frank we fly at City Park here in New Orleans and they have an idiot Democrat for a Mayor. She had some of her goons go out to a playground and wrap yellow crime scene tape around the slide, swings, monkey bars. etc. I know when she finds out we are flying at the park she will close us down as well. Some of this stuff is so over the top it is pathetic.

Frank,
Disagree. I'm an elected municipal official in MN and we've declared a State of Emergency - as has our county and state government partners. ALL public gatherings of 20 or more people are prohibited. Our 13 city parks are open but city-sponsored recreation programs are cancelled. We are allowing people to use city trails and park facilities - as long as they practice the stated social distancing guidelines. Renting of picnic pavilions has been shut down. All schools are closed until the end of April as are restaurants and entertainment (movie theaters, professional performing arts, etc.)
There is no more influencial group as professional sports teams. We have NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL and MSL sports franchises here - all of which have voluntarily put a hold on their activities. College and high school commencements are also likely to be scrapped.
My RC club (I am president) has cancelled their next meeting - and the building we meet has notified all their renters the building is locked. Our field is a private field in the middle of a large agricultural area and that remains open but we've cancelled all our food-related events for the time being.
This COVID-19 pathogen has demonstrated a very high rate of person-to-person contagion. ALL medical professionals have warned public leaders the ONLY effective available action is to prevent this person-to-person transmission by isolation.
It's a shame not everyone understands the gravity of our current situation or simply if they 'feel fine' now does not mean they are already a carrier of the disease and need to respect the health of nearby people.
So... be patient and remain safe. There will be other 'perfect flying days'.

Well said, Steve, and thank you for providing true leadership.

the 20 people is dependent on seating and interior area.....6 feet is considered the social distancing so one customer ever 3 to 4 chairs apart....the fallacy is...bar person still handles and delivers drink and collects contaminated cash or tips....unfortunately we just shut doors on the VFW and a few good folks are without pay ot tips until this crap passes

Whittier Narrows is closed and the Bob Palmer Memorial meet postponed.
Come on guys, just shut up and go build a new model. ;D

Well said, Steve.

well fellows if the weather is flyable and the regular site is closed, what about school grounds, parking lots and a few other areas. By the time the cops show up you could have a flight or two done. then go back home and clean the plane. Weather here has been either foggy, cold(less than 50 degrees), and windy. D>K

Philly Fliers fly at two Pa. state parks. Neshaminy state park is locked down. It is in Bensalem twp. Last I heard Benjamin Rush State Park in N.E. Phila. is still open, go figure that one out.

Reminds me I need to cut down that Hedge tree in my front yard. The pines are already infected and I need to get rid of them for the Pecan trees to grow anyways. That opens up my flying field.

They require you consult with the city arborists here if you want to cut down a tree, and then give you a short list of trees that you will be required to replace it with. The tree huggers wouldn't allow the city parks dept. to trim back trees or even blackberry brambles, so we lost the use of the dedicated flying circle at Carkeek Park in N. Seattle. How's that for freedom? HB~> Steve
