Surprisingly enough, no damage. It popped my little nose block out but that was an easy fix. When the wind dies down a little, I'll try it again.
Just posting the video here as a bit of comic relief....

Haha. Yes, farther south Chief. It's Eldorado dry lake, near boulder city. South of Vegas

Go to the mountains, add six camels, three white Toyota trucks, five adobe buildings and you are in Afghanistan. LL~ LL~ LL~ LL~ LL~ LL~ LL~ H^^
Lol. It was a rather warm day!
Fingers crossed on the next run

Dane, I think you've just summed up my whole free flight career!
-
That's what's SUPPOSED to happen on the first test flight of any FF model! At least you didn't have to chase it very far.
-
That plane will be happier going left under power.
Some left thrust and tab will help.
It's always fun when you hafta duck.

Those poor free flight club members had no idea! Ha

DANE,
do you know that they make itty bitty receivers and servos for planes like that? They are lots of fun to steer around and not crash!
Cheers, Jerry

Assuming the glide is OK, I would add a bit of wash-in on the right wing panel.

Ha! Takes the guess work out. That's no fun

It's hard to believe that none of them knew to fly a Cabin model left under power.
-
Dane, you have a real sweetheart of a place there to fly. Way cool I must say. Ken

They're simply very polite. They possibly thought I knew what I was doing? Haha

Well, polite is nice but a plane in the ear makes a statement.

Yes, it is a very nice LARGE area. It's so fun to fly free flight, CL, RC... lots of activities all the time
-
You are lucky to have a site like that. I am getting ready to start a rubber powered kit that gaurantees flight if instructions are followed. LL~ LL~

But what would be the fun in that? Model airplanes are always more fun when you don't know what you are doing.
And like Dan said, you need for it to circle to the left. Next, you need to add some lines....

Haha!! Dan actually called me and straightened me out. I believe we isolated the problem and as soon as some wind drops of, it'll be tested again. Sans lines for now... lol

Film at 7?

Hi Dane, Sometime in the mid-60"s I sent off a high thrust Viking with a Dynamic Models .049 and time tank up front. the timer didn't work and that sucker went OOS! got it back a week later from a pig farmer! The Viking was OK but it did smell rather strange! That's why if it ain't got strings I ain't a gonna fly it!

I had a blast with these as a kid. Trim it to glide whichever direction wants to then use thrust trim to get a gentle spiral up in the direction of the glide turn. A touch of up or left thrust and you would have been violating FAA limits and hoping the engine quit. Watch out for thermals! I lost some out there in the 70's that probably still haven't come down. And an awesome Youtube video!

While it's true that the convention is for cabin models to turn left and pylon models to turn right under power, I had a pylon model that flew perfectly to the left. Of course, I insisted otherwise and it crashed to the right. I got looking at the wing (a Starduster X wing and stabilizer), and it had wash-in in the left wing. I'm not huge on FF gas experience, but I'm wondering if the wash-in makes more difference than the fuselage configuration? I've got a 1/2a Mini-Pearl downstairs that needs a TD .049 and a Seelig MiniCombo....or a new home. It flew ok, except it glided about as well as Howard's Impact. LL~ Steve

Steve, my wing looks completely unwashed

i didn't look at nor notice washin.
If it has washin on the left wing it is surprising that there is anything left of it after going right under power.
TDs are easy to come by. Seeligs ... different story but a MiniPearl doewsn't need a seelig Minicombo. A Tatone and a fuse will do fine.
