I am posting some pics of my Cobra with it's first coat of color, next will come the silver trim, and clear.

That Blue is a Dupli-color spray called "intense blue pearl", the trim will be a charcoal grey, and the canopy will be black.

I don't know if it is getting better and better, or my photography is getting worse and worse, but thank you! I think it is not to bad, being my first I beam plane, and having to figure things out as I go(there was no instructions with the kit). There were lessons learned with this plane that will be used on my Colossus when I get it. The biggest problem for me now is that I am working one handed due to having shoulder surgery on this past monday, so doing my tape outs for the trim will take some time(also have to make sure I am not to hopped up on pain meds when I do the layout! Lol!!

I like the way the paint reflects the light as you move around the plane.

Ok, that was a lie, the Chianti bottle was in the fridge. Since I shoulder surgery on monday, I only have one good wing, and was using it to hold the camera. Doing the masking with one hand should be fun!

Maybe you ought to wait a couple of days till you're feeling better.
The ship has beautiful lines and the blue you used I think matched it.

Nice looking airplane, Pat. I like the blue and can't wait to see it with trim.

I remember when Chianti bottles came wrapped in a wicker-like material. Hey, maybe that's what happened! Pat unwrapped the wicker from the bottle and used it for cap strips!!!

from the rear. Doing the tape outs was a little harder than I figured with my left wing in a sling, but it came out ok I think.

I have done everything since final filler coats of dope with one hand! Slow going that way. The engine is going to be an Evolution .36(which I need to get on the bench and break in). I quit counting the ribs when I kept breaking them. Thank you for the compliments!

Looks really good, the "Silver" really stands out.

You can see all the ribs in your photo, my gosh! A bunch.

pat,

The Evolution is an ABC engine and does not need a 'break in' as in slow rich run in unless you want to buy a new rod and wrist pin. Fire it up and set it at a wet/break 2 cycle and fly it level for a flight or so and then go for it.

All in all, I think it is worthy of a last row finish!

The EVO 36 is an excellent engine but does not do well as supplied from the factory. I drilled the large venturi thru and installed a Super Tigre NVA. What a difference. I now have a Fox 40 SS NVA in mine and the engine in a NoblARF. I have ground run it but not flown it.

Pat,

Do a search regarding the Evo 36. Most, including myself, have gone to a venturi NVA. Easy to install and works well. The remote NVA bracket is so large, I could not get it to fit in a full body fuselage. Follow the instructions regarding fuel. Since it's an ABC, it will use little or no caster. Mine is very user friendly and makes a nice sport engine.

The plane looks awesome. Now don't go putting tar patches on it or even grass stains. Need to get my EVO .36 out of the ARF Nobler and maybe in my ARC Vector. Do have the Rabe Mustunt II kit to work on.

Since this plane was built around the Evo as it came fro the factory, I doubt I will change the engine, however, if I go with this engine again for another plane I wll make the change.

My AMA number is large, it's five digits, starts with a "3". I lost my original number many years ago. Foolish of me.

That's the thing. I don't believe you do, not for CL.

You're not alone, there are others on the Forum who don't have their AMA.

I keep mine just so I don't loose my number again. Doesn't matter that much actually because I only have one R/C model left with my AMA number on it.

Only if you fly competition or have a flying site that requires it. Check your home owners insurance just to be on the safe side. I know a couple of people that fly control line maybe a half dozen times a year or even less. They don't even consider the AMA license for their benifit. I have been an AMA member since 1956 and have never let it lapse. It gives me the privelage to fly in competition, fun flies and any organized model field that does not require a park permit. And those that bad mouth Model Aviation have missed some great articles even if they weren't CL oriented. How do you think I learned to sheet leading edges using white glue and an iron. Free flight tells how to build light. With the number of people that are playing with radio control percentage wise makes us CL'rs look small in numbers. And numbers is where the money is at. I wonder if some of the free flight people complain as much as us CL'rs?

John, I try not to bad mouth anything, especially if I can learn from it. I kind of backed into the CL hobby, so I know very little about the AMA, always willing to check something out.
