Anyone know anything about this engine for stunt? Sounds good on paper, not too heavy and the price is right, just wondering why I don't hear anything about it. Good replacement for the LA46?
My guess is that no one had heard about it until today. Offhand it looks like the one of the off-brand engines (as noted in the title) which was, uh, inspired by the OF46SF. If so, and of decent quality, you can certainly use it for stunt with proper set-up. The 46SF was substantially more powerful than the 46LA, but if you are going to build that style of model, most people went for something a little more conventional like a 40/46VF, PA40/51/61/65, etc. The 46LA works OK in old 35-sized airplanes but you aren't going to have much luck with the 46SF in small models.
This is all just speculation, I doubt anyone has tried it since 46LA and 40/46VFs are widely available and cheap, and there's a lot more history to them.

HK has one called the INC 46 for $70.
Why is the VF more conventional than the SF because it has rear exhaust?
Because it is a rear-exhaust engine run using a tuned pipe and a ~4" pitch prop, which is the defacto standard stunt setup for close to 30 years now. It matters because is has a known, workable setup that is capable of and has won any contest in the world. You might be able to get the 46SF to run well using a side-to-rear header but no one has a proven setup that I am aware of and it has nearly no contest history.

We tried the SF for awhile after the last of our supply of Tiger .46s and parts ran out. I couldn't find consistency with them and they seemed to chew up con rods. Jim Lee used one for many moons though and liked it. This might be worth a try for low price but until proven I wouldn't invest much in it if it looks to be a clone of the SF. If you built a nice airplane around it and had to keep investing in new engines or parts to keep it going you'd be better off ponying up for a good power package. In my mind a better choice would be to snatch a nice Enya .45 off the bay for about the same or less money. No question about that being a good muffled engine in that size. Nonetheless I'd like to hear about any experiences with this Mecoa. Pleasant surprises welcome!

If that turns out to be a really good engine and the stunt community really starts using it, it will almost immediately go out of production.

I have a MECOA .46R/C that I ran on a pipe for several years, (back in my R/C days) that was and still is a fine engine. I had given a thought several times to C/L it. I believe it would be comparable to the OS .46

If memory serves (and sometimes it doesn't), that Mecoa motor started life out as the Royal 46.

Wonder what the chances he borrowed heavily on the LA 46 porting and timing ?

If this is true, they will likely be made in Ukraine. They have their own set of porting requirements that are very good, so they won't have to borrow from the Japanese! LL~ LL~ LL~
It's a safe bet that they will be significantly more expensive than the LA engines however!
Being a sworn IC guy I hope the rumor is true!

There are ordered now. Did not get to talk to John much, sound like the 46 is a bigger 40, don't know about 60. Don't know if they will be a bushing motors or not.

A few people were using OS 46 SF years ago. It likes low (or no) nitro and a low pitch prop. We were using 3 blade Bollies of maybe 4.5 inch pitch. I think I ran 2.5% nitro. Strong, consistent running engine, but I replaced it with a PA 61 RE and wouldn't want to go back.
It has way, way more power than an LA-46 and completely different engine run. They would power very different planes.

Still 12 oz. for a 46 is a bit high

Yes but they will fly any airplane that would normally house a 60 or more so the extra weight is of no consequence.

Randy is correct. Don't fixate on the weight. There are other things, such as power output that are important, otherwise no one would be flying electric.
