OS LA 46 needle valve
« on: May 10, 2007, 08:34:10 PM »
I flew my OS LA 46 for the first time and the engine ran great.  Plenty of power and very consistant.  The only problem is I really don't like the spring needle valve.  I'd like to replace with something solid like the Brodak 40.  Does anyone know of a good replacement even if I have to replace the entire NVA.

Thanks

Sam

Hey Sam,

I have a Randy Smith PA NVA in my OS LA .46.  Very similar to a ST NVA but has a nylon bushing in the NV collar. It holds the NV in place better than the ST set up.  Won't let the NV move due to engine vibration. Very good design.

Hope to see you at Brodak's Saturday.  Good luck with your auction!

I wholeheartedly recommend the PA NVA for any and all engines. ;D  The delrin/nylon (or whatever it is) bushing in the keeper is the best thing I have ever seen concerning needle valves.   It locks the needle and seals it, yet you can turn the needle to adjust.

You can pretty easily pull the spring off and solder on a solid extension, if that is what you want.  The OS is a very good needle valve, with good support of the needle, so it isn't much affected by vibration.

The PA needle is the STANDARD mod I use for every single engine now.

The LA 46 is substantially improved by simply switching to the Randy needle.

BTW, randy now makes short bodied version for the LA's.  No more shimming required.  Thanks Randy!!!!

yep, and he has a turned down NVA especially to duplicate the Fox 35 size but with his collet and bushing.

How would that body compare to the Fox?

I've got the OS NV on a 40LA that I run in a Noblearf.  I really get a good run; can't tell much difference between it and the ST.  BTW, I'm running a 25LA with the remote NVA and I really get a good run.   Glen

Hi Brad,

The body is *identical* to the Fox stock one.  I believe it is stainless steel.
