OS LA 40

I have new OS LA 40 and am seeking a good profile stunter to attach it to. The Twister looks interesting. It is rated for up to a 40. My main question is whether it is too much engine for a rather old design. Any ideas out there? I'll bet there may be a few!..thanks, Bob

The Twister was designed around a 9 oz motor/muffler combination,  the Fox 35.  The stock LA40 weighs about 1.5-2 oz more, so you will have to make some allowances.  If you do the Fancher mods, with a longer tail, and/or use a lighter muffler you will be OK.  Plus the LA has gobs more power than a Stunt 35, it will fit right in with the current rage to put the biggest motor you can into an airframe.

The twister will work - if you fancherise it, it will be better.

The best profile "by miles!!!!" is the Pizzazz - if you know someone that can cut you some cores, I will send the plan to you.

I would look at the Profile Oriental....it's Classic legal and has a wing that builds very straight....and it is a good performer.....

An LA40 in a Twister would be an ideal match.
A Sig Banshee would also work well.
As mentioned already, Both were designed around a Fox 35 Stunt (light) when nobody used mufflers.
If you are going to use the stock muffler, just lop about an inch off the nose and you'll be good to go.
Or many others have had success moving the wing forward about an inch.

I've got two Fancherized twisters with LA40's.....they both fly great.  One better than the other 'cause I put a Rabe rudder on it.(see topic Fancherized Twister with a Rabe Rudder).  I like the LA40's but had trouble with them running away till Carl Shoup turned me on to his head modification which lowers the compression a lot but still retains the squish band effectiveness which is lost when you do it by piling on head the head gaskets.  The longer fuse on the Fancherized version helps coompensate for the extra weight of the LA40 and the LA40 is much more powerful than the FOX 35.  Good combination. 11X5 Pro Zinger prop works well.

  There is a guy here in the St. Louis area named John Garrett that fits in with the thread I read here or on SSW as one of the best flyers you ever saw but nobody knows about. John went from Beginner to Expert with the Twister and and several FP-40s. Not just the single design, but the same single airplane! I think he wore out two or three FP-40s along the way. Bounced it a time or two but was always able to repair it, sometimes between rounds, and come back with it. And it was a stock kit, no mods of any kind, and the FP-40's were usually stock As much as I like the Fancher mods (my profile Shark is a Fancherised Twister with leading edge sheeting and cap strips) it is a very capable airplane as it is originally designed and all it really needs is a pilot dedicated to practice, as John was and is. Prop an LA .40 correctly, make up a couple of sets of lines, be ready and dedicated to burn lots of fuel in practice, and it will serve you well. I'll go so far as to say that it is right up there with the Ringmaster, Nobler,and any other top selling model that you can thin kof as one of the best designs of all time.

Thanks very much, guys. I really appreciate the input. I ordered the Sig Twister because it's a kit and the price is right. The Pizzaz pic was posted after I had my order in...that is a real looker!!..so that is going to be next on my list. I just finished a scratch Ringmaster and am looking forward to building a kit for a change.

Do the Fancherized thing.....you will like it.  Also I put half ribs on my last two and it seemed to improve performance some and the appearance a lot.
