Regarding OS engines, is the FP an acronym that stands for something? The LA? The LAS?

Yes. It's a series of engines just like the LAs are or the FXs, etc. The FP's are very solid reliable engines and feature bushings instead of bearings. As such they need some castor oil lubrication.

No. It’s not an acronym. Those designators don’t stand for
FP / Full Power,
LA / Less Aluminum,
LAS / Lighter and Stronger,
SF / Sorta Fast,
RF / Real Fast,
VF / Very Fast,
“H” / Heavy.
OS FS-xx is an acronym for Four Stroke. Unless they goofed and picked the right letters by accident. Otherwise they are all just made up model numbers.

They probably had a poll among the company brass with a prize of some sort to the winning suggestion. I'd guess it was a trip to Hawaii or Thailand. Likely a tax write-off, too. That's the way corporations work. y1 Steve

The original schnuerle ported 40 and 60 SR were rear induction the front induction was then named the FSR. When the plain bearing version of the FSR came out it was the FP which I thought the P stood for a plain bearing FSR engine .
The Magnum and Thunder Tiger FP clones call their plain bearing copies the GP range, again I suggest the P being plain bearing.
When the LA series came out Los Angeles came to mind perhaps an intended audience with OS appealing to US RC buyers but I think that may put off buyers from other States and not appeal to European and other non US buyers .
Maybe a more obvious meaning like L for low cost and A for atypical as in a low cost but excellent engine.
