OS Engines

Has anyone else noticed that the OS engines web site ( www.osengines.com ) is gone?  If you enter that URL into a browser, it goes to Horizon Hobby.  The parts lists and manuals are gone.

Yup. Redirected to Horizon alright. I don't like what that seems like. If the rumor mill's been churning about OS closing up shop, I haven't been in on it. That's not saying much, as I'm not exactly on top of recent modeling  industry news. Another one bites the dust... I guess. I hope it's not so, but... Lucky for me if I need an OS engine, some electric convert will sell me one on eBay. The engines on Horizon are all RC and other non CL units. Pretty pricey too. As for venturis, pistons, liners and other innards??? I'll treat them with my usual care.

Well, the parts lists and manuals are at the Japan (.jp) website.  Further, the newsletters there appear to show O.S. continuing plans to attend trade shows, etc.  Though the parts lists and manuals are in English, using "translate" in the Chrome browser was helpful in looking at the newletters on the website.

I have found it pretty hard to wear out an OS engine (other than the 35-S connecting rod.)  One of my early LA-46 purchases has hundreds of flights on it from 3 different owners on a (now rebuilt) heavily modified Sig Fazer.  It still runs like new.

Yes, your OS LA .46 legacy lives on.  Got in ten flights today, one right after the other, with several one flip starts. Used mostly 10% fuel, but tried 5% for a few flights and liked it.  Also tried a Zinger 12-4, a Kyosho 11-4.5 nylon and was ultimately glad to get back to the Rev-Up 12-5 cut down to 11.5-5.

Weather was partly cloudy, 70 degrees and mostly a dead calm.  So calm that the Fazer could feel its own wake turbulence here and there.  Did two flights consisting entirely of overhead eights, working on lining up the exit.

Around the time that Tower discontinued the Tower 40, I tracked down the manufacturer.

They wanted an order for 1000 units. I guess that would include a quantity of unassembled units as spares.

Imagine the LA 46-S dimensions with the superior metallurgy of the Tower 40.

    The existing metallurgy lasts more flights that most people do in their lives, so I don't see much improvement.
