Title: OS does it again!
Post by: Joe Mader on May 30, 2007, 01:19:40 PM
Well, guys, it looks like OS has done it again to us. They have discontinued the OS .15 LA-S C/L. The replacement being recommended is the Fox .15. Just thought we would let you .15 flyers know.

Hi Joe,

They still are making the R/C version though, right?

Yes, as far as I know they are still making the R/C version for a limited time.

The Fox .15 is about the only  one left. Norvel's are few and far between. It seems they are pretty much out of business. The Enya is pretty much a direct import. It's about all we know.

It seems they offer what sells.  It's probably not profitable for them to offer the 15 LA in -S form.  It's nothing new, and as always anyone that wants one will probably still be able to get the venturi/nva's from tower to convert RC engines.  From looking at the Tower website, the 'blue' version is discontinued, but the 'natural' RC 15LA is still listed. The Fox 15 is the BB variety which is really too heavy for any traditional .15 sport/stunt plane.  I like .15's even though I haven't built a new 15 size plane in 10 years, and I never could justify the expense of the LA 15.  I'd much rather have a FP, or Max-S, etc.

my feeling is that there will be a lot less glow engines being made in the next few years.  OS might have discontinued the LA 15 already, and are using already made parts.  Cox went many many years without making any new parts.  My understanding is that engine parts are made in big production runs.

Look at the explosion of electric motors, and how many glow motors that were displaced by electric.  The usage of glow motors as a whole is on the down slope.  Cox and Norvel are gone, other manufactures will continue to trim their offerings as to not lose money.  Speciality makers will still be around because they can command a premium price, but the OS's of the world will have a lot fewer products.
