Got up sunday Morn....did a couple of light chores around the house then kissed my Wife and went to the local park before the softballers arrived. Got some more flights on the Electric Baby Lightning Streak after adding flaps. Seemed to fly a lot smoother. Added 1/2 ounce of weight in the nose. Any mistakes were all on my left hand. Tossed up a couple RC foamies then decided to drive out and see where the Minneapolis Piston Poppers fly. I had tossed my armada of planes in the car just in case I decided to go....though I knew I would.
Drove around and saw the area that looked like a control line field. Empty but a man walking a dog and practicing his fly fishing cast. But there was a feller standing outside his car on the tarmac staring at the sky. I drove near him and was checking my phone to re-read a email from Steve Scott describing the site. So....the man in car drives over to me and we pull window to window and he asks what I got in my car. I see a couple of planes in his car. His name was Rick and he had driven quite a way and told me he was kinda-sorta getting back into the hobby. We gabbed a bit...set our planes out on the tarmac and chatted. I suggested maybe we just go and run them up as we are both breaking in some engines and we could throw my 1/2 A Sig Dewey bird up for fun and see what happens in the mighty wind. Both of us had re-upped our AMA and I have recently sent my check in to join the Piston Poppers.
We put all the planes out on the field, grabbed out field boxes and we ended up having a fantastic day of fiddling with our planes and working out some kinks. We both agreed we needed the time to get our kits in order. No one else ever showed up so we had the place to ourselves)))) Rick had a modified Sky Ray and was breaking in an OS .40 on it and he had an Oriental with a Fox .35. Ahhh...the smell of castor! I had my Prowler that I have just finished, Sig Dewey Bird, My old Ringmaster Jr and the new Brodack ARF Bi-Blob.
The high winds had us both a bit hesitant and I did not want to risk flying the Prowler as I'm still breaking in the engine and though I tell myself to fly just laps I always end up going for something maybe I should not go for.
Well...after putting up the 1/2 A I handed Rick the handle to give it some laps. We beat that thing up. Forgot what a fun lil' plane it is and the sound of the Cox .049 brought back good memories.
I went ahead and put up the Ringmaster Jr and went for the Bi-Slob. Rick really helped me pitting and getting them going.
Finally got a bit of a hover on the Bi-Slob but did not have the camera going. Whaaa. Gonna take a while to figure out that unusual plane but I flew it 3 times and used a 10-6 prop (too fast even run very rich) a 10-5 prop (better) but need to go get a 11-4 as suggested. Man was it fun.
We both felt like kids and my face was sore from grinning. Got home tired, wind-burnt and very satisfied.
Great making a new friend and getting to have some control line palaver.....

You are so lucky to find someone like Rick.  Hope you guys exchanged cell numbers.  I had one friend that I would call and say that I had a plane that needed testing after some work on it.  Reply was he and wife was just leaving for the store.   So I would say okay and head for the field.   Guess who was sitting in their car waiting for me.  Was told the store could wait till later.   Sure miss him as his second heart attack got him.   Then there was John B. who would call and say the wind people say it is going to be great for flying and I would meet him at the field.  Was also great when I could say, Emmy lets go flying and she was ready.   Had too much stuff going on last Saturday with mowing and such.   Got two flights in Saturday evening.   Yesterday the knees said whoa and I worked on the changes that needed to be done on the plane.  Anyway I really enjoy your videos and hope maybe we can meet one of these years.

Good to see you had fun, that's the name of the game.  And how lucky to make a new friend at the same time.

Hope to see you at a meeting or at the field soon ...

We did have a big ol' time. Funny how you can meet someone for the first time and become instant friends over a shared interest. Rick said he felt 15 years old again and I felt 12 years old...he is older than me  ;D
I know I'll be meeting up with you and look forward to some flying with you.
I got the fever....
