Title: Original Smoothie plans
Post by: Chuck Feldman on December 18, 2010, 09:43:18 AM
Does anyone know where I can get hold of original Smoothie plans? I think Model Airplane news had them in 1952.  Thanks

I have a Smoothie kit (unbuilt) from the 50's and the Veco "plans" are awful. Don't know how anybody successfully built a Smoothie from these plans. The modern Brodak kit on the other hand has full size plans blessed by Palmer as reflecting the "good" version of his Smoothie. Thus the Brodak kit is called "The Original Smoothie." If you want to build one from plans, I think that is one good way to go. I am sure you know the history of the various versions of the Smoothie so be careful that you get the plans for the version you actually want to build. There is tons in the archives here and on Stuka about Smoothie variants.

Here is something I learned on my visit to Brodak, you can buy rib kits for the planes they sell.  If they sell rib kits they might sell plans, it worth a phone call.  The plans are printed on site at Brodak in their printing department.
